+Jedi Cacher Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 (edited) After many years of speculation, the South Dakota state geocoin is now a reality. For the past several years I have tried to get this project off the ground to no avail and had abandoned the idea. However, earlier in the year I went to work on some sketches and came up with some more ideas for the coin that would best represent the state of South Dakota. A friend of mine helped me out with the final graphics on his Mac and then I sent in the graphics to Oakcoins. This coin contains the state motto, slogan, shape of SD inset with 4 icons from the state. The black hills spruce, ringneck pheasant, walleye and the coyote are all depicted within the shape of the state in traditional geocaching colors. In the back ground of the state image is a really cool compass rose design. On the front is Mt.Rushmore in 3D with a waving American flag in the background. I also decided to include the year this coin was minted, as this is the first geocoin to represent the state. The tracking numbers are on the outer rim of the coin as not to detract from the artwork. This coin can be purchased in 2 different metals. Antique Silver or Antique Gold. The Silver has the blue accents while the gold has the red accents. The cost is $10 per coin. I am now taking pre-orders for these coins until July 1st, 2012. The coins will then go to mint on July 2nd. I am hoping to have them back on time for the Geobash 5 event in mid August. +LSUFan Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 (edited) I sent you an email. We are taking our family vacation in the Black Hills starting next Friday, and these would be neat mementos. Would you mind if I showed these on our local geocaching website down here in Louisiana? Bobby Edited June 16, 2012 by LSUFan Quote

No problem on showing this to your local geocachers. I will be taking pre-orders till July 1st. When the coins come back from mint I will send out a paypal invoice and then ship them out. Hoping to keep shipping & handling to a minimum. Quote

+BigDrig Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 I'd love to have one of these. I'm currently living in South Dakota, so this would be a great memento for our time here. I will send you a message. Quote
+Jedi Cacher Posted September 1, 2012 Author Posted September 1, 2012 The South Dakota Geocoins arrived about 2 weeks ago, right before the Black Hills Geobash V event. Now that the event is over and the dust has settled, I will be getting in touch with people on getting these coins shipped out. Thanks Quote
+Jedi Cacher Posted September 7, 2012 Author Posted September 7, 2012 Now that the Black Hills Geobash V event is over, I still have plenty of coins left in my inventory in both metals. If anybody else out there is interested in an SD Geocoin or two, just contact me. Quote
+kini_ont Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Mine arrived today & they look great, Thanks Quote
