I use a free online text-to-speech program Demo here to make custom voice messages but this uses pre-set voices of a few choices for my Nuvi 265t and 1490. It creates a .wav file that I save and rename to match my various custom POI files for caches, such as different .wavs for micro, multi, puzzle, events, etc. I know this doesn't answer your specific question but perhaps it will lead to other info.
