+dukeofurl01
A buddy of mine went out of town, and while he was geocaching, he found this mark by accident. I've never seen one quite like this before, and didn't even know that this agency (USFS) even set marks. Quote Link to comment
Bill93
This a land survey (cadastral) mark, not a geodetic mark, so it is unlikely to have an elevation or lat-lon data sheet anywhere. It marks a 1/16-section corner (40 acre tract) on the line of sections (mile square blocks) 28 and 33, set by the land surveyor with license number 5716. But with GIS training, you probably knew that. Edited May 10, 2012 by Bill93 Quote Link to comment

I just wanted to show you two (non-cadastral) cases where the USFS set marks that are in the NGS database. One is vertical control and the other is horizontal. +DragonsWest
Found one of these up near Dunsmuir, California. It was on a bridge spanning the Sacramento River. A little beat up (what is with defacing these things?) but clear enough to read. I find them in old ranch lands which are now Open Space parks, quite often. Quote Link to comment

Yeah, this one was east of Sacramento, along Hwy 50. A few feet from N38 45.864 W120 32.286 Quote Link to comment
+dukeofurl01
Here's another unusual one that I saw a while ago. I saw it a little east of Cloverdale, CA. One of the strange things about it is the sqaure in the middle, I've only seen triangles there before. Quote Link to comment
