+Cacheola Crew
I am trying to set up my TB page and I need to upload a map I have made. The map is too big (over 100K) to use the upload feature, but when I make it smaller, too much detail is lost. So, I am trying to just make a link to it from the page, but it doesn't seem to work. Although it seems to work fine here. Can anyone help? Janine http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Geocaching-HamptonRoadsVA/join "You have brains in your head; You have feet in your shoes. +Markwell
The first problem is the format. BMP files (as far as I know) only work on PCs. It would be nicer if you converted it to a JPG. That would also reduce the size of the computer file considerably. Right now it stands at 1.27 MB, as a JPG, it's still 146K, but that's close to 10% of the BMP size. You'll still need to load the JPG on another source that Geocaching.com because it's bigger than the 100K restriction. Once you do that (to the same spot you loaded the BMP), you can link using the following code: <img src=http://members.cox.net/jodobo/hot%20potato/gamemap.jpg>That will put it on the page. If you just want a link, it's this code:<A HREF=http://members.cox.net/jodobo/hot%20potato/gamemap.bmp>Click Here for Map</a> E-mail me through the website, and I'd be glad to send you the BMP file converted to a JPG. +Stunod
I opened it with Windows "Paint" and saved it as a JPG...and it reduced it to 81.4 KB. You can easily upload that file. +Cacheola Crew
Thanks to you both. I was able to upload it using the html that Markwell showed. I appreciate your help. +Stunod
I took a look at your bug page...the game sounds very cool. However, I REALLY suggest you convert that map file to JPG. It took about a minute on my business DSL line to download it as a BMP. The compressed JPG will load MUCH faster (think of those poor saps on dialup). +Cacheola Crew
Okay, I changed it to a jpg and put it in there. Would you try it and see if it takes less time to load.Hot Potato Travel bug Also, is there a way to adjust the size, so that it doesn't expand the margins of the TB page? +Stunod
MUCH faster now...about 5 seconds. Almost all photoediting software packages allow you to scale (or stretch) the picture. Looks like you only need to shrink it a few percent. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand." - Homer Simpson Eamus Catuli AC145895 Link to comment
