+BCNorwich
Hello, Connect the Garmin to the PC via a cable. Turn the unit on. On the unit press menu (maybe twice to get the main menu up). Select SETUP then INTERFACE then USB MASS STORAGE. Wait a sec and the unit should appear as a drive on your PC. Regards Bernard Quote Link to comment
seldom_sn
A GPS60 is a pretty old unit. Probably needs MapSource. BaseCamp may not recognize it. Edited April 9, 2012 by seldom_sn Quote Link to comment
davelou
Hi there, Tried this bit it still doesn't find the unit.I've even tried different com ports? the message comes up if i alter the serial data format to garmin dgps check wiring.. +BCNorwich
Hello There, It doesn't need Mapsource or Basecamp for the PC to see/look at the SD Card. The card is recognised as a drive and the steps I described before are for the card to be seen as a drive on your PC. You won't be able to do anything to the unit settings on the SD Card, that holds the maps, except I think for the Base Map, and POI files. If you want to upload tracks, waypoints or caches then you'll need Mapsource or somrthing similar. If you want to upload POIs you'll need Garmins PoiLoader or something similar. What exactly are you trying to do, or what has gone wrong that needs to be put right? Regards Bernard Quote Link to comment
xyzee
My GPS 60 still gets a fair amount of use, but I've only connected up to MapSource several times to save waypoints. I wonder what he wants to know, that can't be found out by button pushing on the receiver? Before I go to button pushing, I re-read, and make sure that understand the exit method. http://www.gpsinformation.org/dale/secret.htm Quote Link to comment

Regards Dave I'm curious about what "settings" you are checking. And why you would need it connected to a computer to do so. B. Quote Link to comment
davelou
Hi all, The gps unit is not recognised on my pc as a seperate drive as my own gps, Ipod ect. He wanted to check that it had the latest software ect & to clear his track logs ect, he uses it pureley for grid refrences when walking thats all,"i can switch it on & off & scroll through the pages & thats it,only use the one page on it". Pup Patrol
The owner's manual is available online as a pdf: http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/GPS60_OwnersManual.pdf Starting at page 29 is the information for "tracks" and "track logs". If I'm reading this page correctly, the last software update for that unit was back in 2006: http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-00322-00 B. Quote Link to comment
xyzee
The latest version is 2.40. Check from Main Menu page>Setup>System>Menu button>Software Version. Select "Tracks" on the Main Menu Page for tracks control. Also, on the Trip Computer page>Menu>Reset Delete Saved Tracks can be found. Quote Link to comment
+Don_J
The GPS60 does not have an SD card, nor does it's internal memory emulate a hard drive. In other words, there is no file system on it that a computer can recognise. (The 60X units have the SD card.) You can send/receive waypoints, tracks and routes to it using third party software such as Mapsource or GSAK, but you can't explore it's data. Quote Link to comment
+BCNorwich
I do beg your pardon, Don_J is correct, there's no card, that explains the problem. Regards Bernard Quote Link to comment
davelou
Hi All, That would explain that then. Thanks for all the replies. Regards Dave Quote Link to comment

+Don_J
i have a gps60 and my computer wont recognise it either, i want to be able to remove the caches i've found like i do with my etrex10 You can't. These units pre-date the current types that can be accessed as removable drives and use GPX files. All of the data is stored in internal memory in its own format. To delete caches, press: Find Waypoints Menu Delete Choose a symbol, or all symbols to clear all the waypoints Follow the prompts I usually delete everything and then reload it with fresh waypoints/geocaches.
