Downloading waypoints from Oregon 550t

No doubt everyone else knows the answer to my problem, but the surely obvious answer eludes me.

 

I can upload waypoints from MapSource (version 6.16.3) to my Oregon 550t (SW version 4.50), just as I've done for years with various Garmins, with no problem.

 

HOWEVER: When I try to do the reverse, download waypoints from the 550t to MapSource, I get the message "The selected device has no waypoints on it." This is a lie, of course, since the device demonstrably has dozens of waypoints on it. (The identification of the selected device is given correctly).

 

What am I missing (apart from adequate IQ)???

With the device plugged into your PC it should be recognized as an external drive. Open up the device and navigate to the GPX folder. This is where all the waypoint data is stored. You can drag any of the files out of the unit and directly to Mapsource.

Mapsource does not play nicely with the Oregons and a few other newer units.

The file structure was changed on the unit and Mapsource does not recognise this.

 

Either do as mpilchfamily suggests or use Basecamp.

You may want to try Basecamp. Its not as user friendly as Mapsource but it is the product that Garmin is moving to and keeping up support for.

Problem solved; Basecamp clearly is the way to go. Thanks for the clue!
