+FolsomNatural
Just bought the Triton 400 and cannot get going on it. It has a very PRIMITIVE map installed. I tried to install the included TOPO! Explorer. I can access the maps on the TOPO page, but cannot get them into the Triton memory. I get a "Need 64 bit DPInst.exe" error message. I cannot find DPInst.exe anywhere - they say it's outdated!!!! The "Connected" icon appears for Vantage Point but not for TOPO. Any help appreciated. I am ready to bring it back to the store and start over. Quote Link to comment
+DazeDnFamily
I can't help directly, but you may want to try www.tritonforum.com. When I was considering the Triton, they seemed a very receptive group. Later! Quote Link to comment
+safechrisLaurie
I just got a Triton off of ebay last week. Can't figure out the maps at all. Also, my Vantage Point has nothing but a green screen and my caches. Just work on downloading the caches. That seemed to take a lot of time as my Triton was not found of Windows 7 or Vista. the Triton Forum is a really good place too. Let me know if you figure it out. I would love to figure out the maps too! By the way. Still can't figure out the maps or how to change my time, but it gets me to within 3 feet of a cache! Hope it helps. Quote Link to comment
+FolsomNatural
Thanks for the reply, Safe. I found that Magellan no longer supports the software. So, I returned mine a bought a Garmin unit. You can figure out how to work around the software issues by reading the forums you mentioned. I found it too complicated and frustrating for my level of patience and not having a Ph.D. in computer science. The good news is you CAN get out into the field with the 400, but there are several interim steps required to get up to speed. The big problem is getting the bundled software onto the Triton, and this takes downloading, installing, and running programs I am not familiar with. "But wait! Before you do that, you have to do this . . ." and that occurs for about 7 levels deep. With the maturity of a 5-year old, I gave up early in the game, and switched to device that is as close to plug-and-play that you can get. Good luck, and keep us informed of your progress.
