Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Any GPS receiver should work in Japan. I visited Japan in 2009 and used an Explorist 500 to find several caches. Quote Link to comment

If you buy one on e-bay or elsewhere online it may not have maps of Japan in it. Many handhelds only come with a worldwide (if that) basemap anyway - not great anywhere, but coverage everywhere.
