Oregon 300

Recommended Posts

GPS has partially uploaded field notes for two days and today it refused to upload any. Have had in the neighbourhood of 20+ logs each day. Any ideas? Went to Garmin site and gps is current. Don't know what else to do.

Have printed off field notes to Notepad to record. They refuse to load to My Profile.

If you don't mind, can you post one line of your field notes here so that we can take a look?

Typically, problem with uploading field notes fall into 4 categories:

1. Invalid leading character or empty line at the beginning

2. Invalid (to Groundspeak) line in description of one of the entries

3. Invalid GC # (sometimes happens when people change the waypoint name using GSAK

4. Groundspeak changed something

It is unlikely to be the problem, but check your time zone anyway.

I've been using field notes from my Oregon 300 the last 2 days, so it is definitely working

Chris:

Here are two lines from Notepad:

GC1KEDN,2010-12-11T17:02Z,Found it,"QUICK FIRST OF DAY"

GC2F7W3,2010-12-11T17:11Z,Found it,"QEF ONCE IN RIGHT SPOT"

For two days it would only partially download and last night it wouldn't download any?

I created an empty text file, with only those two entries in it, and it uploaded without any problems.

Can you open up your field notes in notepad, and verify the following:

1. There are no invalid lines (every line must start with a valid entry)

2. All the comments are just plain ASCII characters, and not too long

3. Just noticed this one with my testing : the VERY LAST LINE must not have a CR/LF at the end. If you're viewing this in notepad, do the following. Turn of word wrap (under Format->Word Wrap, no check mark there). Move your cursor to the very end. Press DOWN ARROW until it will not move any more, then press END. Your cursor should be at the end of the last field notes entry. If your mouse pointer is at en empty line, press BACKSPACE until you are at the end of your last field notes entry.

Hi Again Chrysalides:

We just got home and I read your message and then downloaded my finds. It worked! I have no idea why but I have printed off your last suggestions and will keep them in a safe place. This is why I hate technology. We are presently wintering in Arizona and I am terrified I am going to lose my ability to use my gps.

Thanks for your prompt help and I hope I don't need it again

Very strange, not sure why it wouldn't work, and then suddenly start working again. Oh well, as long as it is working now

Field notes is just a text file, feel free to experiment with it. If problem occurs again, you can try cutting / pasting parts of it to another file and uploading it instead. Just make sure there is no RETURN after the very last line - Groundspeak seems to choke on the file if there is.

I always delete the field notes file from the Oregon when I'm done uploading it. That may help keep problems from occurring.
