askretzinger Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Is there a GPS that allows me to hunt the same way I do with my Samsung ah777 with the Trimble Geocaching Navigator app? I enjoy just launching the application and it giving me a list of the 10 closest to me that I have not found yet. All the GPS units I see, you have to load the caches one by one and you don't get the benefit of reading logs, hints, and the cache description from the site of the cache which you can do with the Trimble app. I'm trying my best to look for a GPS that will meet what I'm looking to do. I guess if I can narrow down what I'm asking: I'm looking for a GPS where I can load the entire geocaching database and then just drive somewhere and start finding them. I'm still relatively new at this and so I'm hoping for some advice or insight from people. Thanks Quote
+SeekerOfTheWay Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 The Geomate Jr comes pre-loaded with traditional caches. I'm not sure it cache details comes on it too. I use Geocache Navigator by Trimble on my BlackBerry. We're kinda spoiled by the ability to get close caches OTA. I'm looking into getting a GPSr for longer hikes and caching days. But I'll use my BlackBerry to get details and mark field notes. Quote

+Highland Horde Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 as far as I know you are looking for a GPSr that does paperless (there are quite a few...Colorado, Dakota, Oregon, GPSMAP 62) AND a premium membership. With the premium membership you can download the closest 1000 caches and then they are all set for when you are out. With my Dakota 20 any time you look for caches it initially lists them be distance from your current location. There may be another way but Im not sure. Quote
