  1. I could go pick them up and email you pictures
  2. I love the new back....I loved the first one and the second wasn't bad but the 3rd is just as good as the first...I cant wait to get one...or more and thoughts on a pre-sale date?
  3. you can also check out the ACGA at atlanticgeocaching.com. Our forums there have a couple threads about night caches (Heres one... http://forum.atlanticgeocaching.com/index.php?topic=6877.msg77189#msg77189)
  4. im not sure what 2 you have found. and im not sure what you mean by "Halifax area" there is one out by exhibition park and one in lower sackville. both are night only caches. If you want i can list the GC #'s but i would need to look them up.... there are a bunch that are 24/7 but i assume you are looking for night only.
  5. yup...what they said... i cant remember if it was with my etrex or my dakota but one of them wouldn't turn on. I called garmin and they had me up and running in no time.
  6. yes of course "RETRIEVE" not grab.... i hadnt finished my coffee yet Thanks for correcting that.
  7. The "not Collectable" option does not stop people from logging a find or grabbing the bug. It just stops them from putting into their trackables collection. Which TB is it? Are you sure you grabbed the TB when you logged the cache you found it in? If you didnt grab it from the cache and you still have the tracking # you can still grab and then drop it into the cache where you left the bug by logging a note.
  8. TB's are kinda funny that way. I've had a couple that only made it to one cache before disappearing. I had one disappear shortly after being released. It was MIA for over a year then it re-appeared. I have another (TB3FT02) that has traveled over 42000 km so far. I have a coin that is slowly but surly moving but it moves slow. I had a coin that has gone MIA too. I try not to give up hope the the MIA will return but when I release them I know chances are they will never make it home.
  9. my dakota is on a lanyard but normally if im hiking while caching I have a small pack so it is clipped onto one of the shoulder straps so the lanyard is just a precaution so I dont drop it while looking at it (I do like those home made lanyards...ive made lots of the bracelets (swag) but i never thought of putting a clip on it for my GPSr)
  10. this works with the Dakota 20 so it should work with the 10. I just copy the whole unzipped folder into the garmin/gpx folder. I make sure that the Pocket query folder is always named the same then it simply overwrites the previous version.
  11. What was your accuracy? did you have a WAAS lock the first time and not the second? are you under tree cover? there are a lot of factors that can mess with the accuracy. Were you looking at a geocache that you previously found? Could it be the hiders coords are off and not your dakota?
  12. the dakota does not have the spanner mode. My best guess is that it is an issue with the cable. with the dakota there are 2 wires in the usb cable that let it know when it is connected to a computer instead of just power. if the connection is a little loose it may not "see" the computer.
  13. I've got the Dakota 20 but the road maps i put on came from openstreetmaps (FREE!!!!). All the maps for my area (Nova Scotia) and the topo maps (from ibycus - also FREE!!!!) are under 60 MB. (I did just realize that I havent upgraded my topo...i downloaded the new one months ago but havent done anything with it yet...lol)
  14. I had that problem too. Then I calibrated the screen and haven't had an issue since. Ok, kindly explain what you mean by that. I'm very challenged when it comes to the finer points of technology, and always welcome help from my fellow cachers! Thanks. If you go into settings then select display and on the bottom of the menu there is a button that says begin screen calibration. This will bring up some prompts that have like a bullseye that you touch. There will be a few that pop up and they move to different locations on the screen after you touch them. Since I did this with ours I haven't had any problems. Something must have changed, as I have no "settings". There's "setup", but no "screen calibration". There's a compass calibration and an altimeter calibration, but that's it. go into -setup - display - screen calibration that should fix it. I also try to carry a stylus from my kids DS. it makes screen navigation and log entry quicker for me. Edit: as to the original topic. I love the touch screen. The screen can be hard to see in some lighting conditions but overall I am super happy with my dakota 20
  15. I've got the d20 and I am very pleased with it. I had a venture HC previously and yes it did seem simpler to work with at first. I do have to agree that the manual sucks but once i figure things out i like the unit. I have re-arranged my menu screens so the functions I use the most for each profile are on the first page. As far as deleting founds caches yes you need to hook up to a computer but I dont really see the need to delete them out in the field? I think once you get over the initial frustration you will find that the dakota is a good unit.
  16. ooohhhhh does that mean i can pick mine up?
  17. I never cache alone...there is always me and the voices in my head...occasionally there are voices with me that aren't in my head...they are usually a couple of the hordlings...but the voices in my head are still there....usually telling me to be more careful cause there are outside voices with me...lol...the voices in me head aren't so reasonable when there aren't voices outside my head... so...i think i am hearing things and seeing voices
  18. I really dont have a prefereance. I have found a few nanos that are really memorable because of the hide....then there are a few ammo cans that are memorable because of the journey...I guess it depends...as long as there is something worth while...it doesnt matter to me if it is the hide, the location (or view) or the journey to get there as long as there is something worth while...although there are days that a simple P&G is good too...I've even enjoyed a couple that I didn't even get out of my truck, I just rolled down the window...lol
  19. For #5 I started carrying a stylus from my kids DSi. I dont use it all the time but it helps if im out and wearing gloves. you can get them at the dollar store. You can also use the back of a pen or pencil (I used to have a mechanical pencil the I removed the eraser and replaced with the tip from a stylus - it worked great until my daughter hid it in my chair and I sat on it..lol)
  20. Any thoughts on when you expect to get them in from the mint (even a hopeful guess)? I am near by and would love to pick my order up when it comes in.
  21. are you adding them to the GPX folder on the garmin or on the SD card? On my dakota (which is similar) i download the zipped file and then un-archive it and move the whole folder into the Garmin/GPX folder. It doesn't matter if it is on the Garmin or the SD card but occasionally I have had issues if after ejecting the GPSr and doing a restart. If I dont allow it to restart fully (like when I decided to add another PQ) and I re-connect it to the mac, then I dont see any caches. Now before i leave the house, i transfer the unzipped folder to the /Garmin/GPX folder, then eject the GPSr and SD card, startup the GPSr and check to make sure that the caches are there.
  22. 1. Highland Horde Signed up: 12/4/2010 Received Name:Dec 28, 2010 Sent Package:Jan 15, 2011 Received Package:Jan 14, 2011 Yesterday as I was just getting ready to package things up I got a package in the mail. It was really cool. I loved this. Hopefully everyone enjoys the surprise like I did. I will try to post pics soon.
  23. Ya TB's can be a little frustrating. I try not to let it get to me. One of my first TB went less than 5 miles. It left the cache I placed it in, got dropped in another cache and was never seen again. So to deal with my frustration I released more. I have one TB that was released back in April and has traveled over 26000 miles and another that was released as part of a race between me and my two sons and has logged over 6100 miles since October 22. For another of my bugs that has gone missing (3 so far) I actually think I found the traveler that was attached to the tag but no tag, but I am not positive. I have heard stories of bugs and coins reappearing after years have passed so there is always hope they will reappear someday
  24. the tags should have had the same # as the decal. It was probably just an error. Maybe contact your retailer. They are for if you decide to release the bug later (when it isnt your vehicle). I got my decal with two tags...the original and the copy.
