How to move bugs

Is it improper to move a travel bug by mail. If you could contact someone in another area willing to place it in a cache to move it along would that be wrong? We are new to this obviously and just wondered what is proper.

Hello mikey. Typically moving a TB by mail is bad form. Is this a new TB that you own? If you want to send a TB by snail mail and it belongs to somebody else, email them to get permission. They may want a natural migration via caches. Always check the TB's goals prior to moving.

Send a link to the forums? Have you properly logged the bug that you have. Quite a few people are stumped by this process for whatever the reason. Let us (caching public) know if we can be of some help.

No, I don't own a bug yet. We have only been at this for 2 days. Is the normal process to only pick it up if you are going to be actually traveling to another cache or state/country. Thanks for the info

You can pick up a bug as often as you like and move it within a reasonable time frame. The idea with the bugs is to have an "adventure" that the owners and people who watch the bug will enjoy. If you chose to move it to the next cache or if you will be traveling out of state, is all good. If you plan a trip in which you want to take a TB and it may be for some time before you place it in a cache, be considerate and let the TB owner know your intentions.

That link above is my TB Gromit, who is currently in Europe and will be placed soon. I have been in contact with the Berkut via email and he has let me know his whereabouts.

That duck has had one long adventure. Very cool and thanks for sharing.

 

As far as mailing, I guess it depends upon what you want to do with the bugs. I'm mailing a bug to a friend in West Virginia because the goal of the bug is to find his partner and then make it back to California and I didn't want to have them too close to each other to start. I did, however, log them both into a close cache because I wanted them to both look like they started off in California before getting separated as part of their story.

I agree Webfoot (by the way, cool avatar. hi-ho )that if you are the owner of the bug and you want to launch the TB(s) at a different location than where you are, it is an option. I have a TB that I sent to the UK with a friend of mine (not Gromit) to be launched there. Mailing is an option that the owner of the TB should have or permission given by the owner to another cacher. IMHO
