+cattivikkio
Hello all, I have bought my first GPS ever about one month ago, an etrex Legend HCx. I use it primarily for geocaching and I discovered some free topo maps available for my country which I want now to upload onto my microSD memory card. I have a gmapsupp.img file which, as far as I know, I am supposed to copy onto the microSD (via USB mass storage mode). The problem is that after I do that, the map is completely invisible to the GPS unit. Even if I go under Setup-> Map Setup-> Info, I do not see a list of maps to choose from. When I mount the unit as USB mass storage, the only thing I see is the .gpx file that holds my saved tracks and the newly uploaded gmapsupp.img file. they both appear under the root of the memory card. Do I need to place the map ina special directory? I have read discording hints about creating a subdirectory called /garmin and putting the map under that. Does anyone know how I am supposed to copy the map to the memory card? Thanks all in advance /andrea Quote Link to comment
+splashy
Gps-SD\Garmin folder Just transfer the gmapsupp.img with windows explorer. Remember Mapsource makes maps called gmapsupp, there might be a map with that name on your gps, be sure not to overwrite that data. Edited July 27, 2010 by splashy Quote Link to comment

Thanks all in advance /andrea Yes, I just did exactly the same with my new Legend Hcx and wondered why the unit did not read the new map from the card root directory. You must create a folder called garmin on the SD card and put the gmapsupp.img file into it. Quote Link to comment
