nfh
I have a map, which I want to change its map ID (FID). It is a topo map and when I use GMapTool to change its FID, the resulting map is different. The coloured areas that refer to types of landscape are gone. Does anyone know why does changing the FID of a map with GMapTool changes (or disables) some parts of that map? PS: I'm adding a single IMG file with the topo map and splitting it to MapSource files while changing its FID to another value and the PID to 1. Quote Link to comment
+Madproforg
You also need to change the FID in the .TYP file, this tells Mapsource/GPS how to draw the different items. Hope this helps. Quote Link to comment
nfh
You also need to change the FID in the .TYP file, this tells Mapsource/GPS how to draw the different items. Hope this helps. I now realise that forcing a specific FID for the mapset doesn't change the FID of each map. Is there a way to do that for each .img file of a MapSource mapset, as well as for the .TYP file that you mentioned? Quote Link to comment
+Red90
Individual IMG files do not have an FID. The FID is stored in the TDB file, the TYP file and the registry only. The FID is something used on the PC level only. Quote Link to comment
+Madproforg
No need to do for each of the individual .img files produced. There are two possible ways to correct typ file. 1) The easy way is by using MapsetToolkit from http://sites.google.com/site/cypherman1/ to install the extract maps for view in MapSource Click the Install button under the Mapset installed list. (to browse for the sections click the ... buttons) Browse for the tdb file - this populates the fid mapset name, product code & family id enter something for the registry name browse for the overview map, this should have been created when you extracted browse for the typ file When you click the install button it notices that the typ file has the wrong fid and asks if you want to change it. Just say yes. 2) use the command line part of gmaptool (gmt.exe) to change the .typ file a) use GMapTool to get the codepage for the original img file with the file list in GMapTool click the INFO Button and the codepage is the CP column. use the command line gmt -w -y FID,PID,CP xxxx.typ replace FID with the FamilyID PID with the Product Code CP with the codepage and xxxx.typ with the name of the typ file. FID and PID you would have specified during the extraction. you should then just be able to use the install.bat to add the map to Mapsource Quote Link to comment
