+5bikerhiker5
I'm finally getting an unlimited texting plan, and am trying to find ways to make use of it. I was wondering if there is any such service that would allow me to send my current coordinates via sms messaging and receive back a list of nearby caches, along with the details. I have used http://coord.info/textmark.aspx but you must know the geocache code to look up the info. Is there anyway to look up nearby caches by just texing my current coordinates? Thanks for the help! Quote Link to comment
+GeoGeeBee
I don't know of a way to do this through text messaging, but if your phone has a web browser you can use http://wap.geocaching.com to search for the nearest caches. Quote Link to comment

Thank you, my phone does have a browser but the data plan doesn't seem worth it for me. I guess I was thinking there could be some way to only use text messaging, seeing as textmarks already can query the cache descriptions and such, I just wish there would be a way to get nearby caches through sms while I'm on the go Quote Link to comment

Thanks for that! Quote Link to comment
Motorcycle_Mama
If you look in the Geocaching.com web site forum, there's a thread pinned at the top of that section discussing the WAP site, if you want more information. Quote Link to comment
+5bikerhiker5
If anyone on the forums knows how to write a bit of code, I think this would be possible. Using textmarks http://www.textmarks.com/dev/docs/recv/ it would allow for the imput of coordinates to send to the textmarks site, which would look up the info from geocaching.com and respond with nearest caches. There is already a textmarks made that looks up the GC code and responds with the GC details via texting (http://coord.info/textmark.aspx) . If it was just coded differently so it could look up the nearest caches to your coordinates this would work. I would try to contact the provider of the service already available (at coord.info) and ask if they could implement this but I can't find any contact details. Quote Link to comment

Thanks for the help! http://coord.info/textmark.aspx this is pretty cool. Is there a way to extend the interface to retrieve the most recent log notes? I'm thinking of somthing like GEOC 1(GC#) to get most recent log; GEOC 2(GC#) to get 2nd most recent log and so on. [even if it's only the first 100 or so characters of a log entry, it would be useful] Quote Link to comment

It's Groundspeak, the same company that does the geocaching.com website You can contact them at contact @ geocaching dot com But a hint: they'll just tell you to post your suggestions here in the forums Quote Link to comment
