I got some coorindated off of Google earth as follows

 

43 degrees 39'40.56" N

79 degrees 23'16.02"W

 

how do I make these into how geocaching translates their coordinates?

Google Earth has a setting for the format of coordinates displayed.

But here is a coordinate converter: http://www.boulter.com/gps/

I entered "43 39 40 -79 23 16" and got the result "N 43 39.667 W 79 23.267"

60 seconds in one minute. Divide the seconds by 60 to obtain a decimal fraction. This is the fractional part of the minutes.
