+Narniaexpert
I am planing on buying an iPhone 3Gs very soon and because I can use this for geocaching with the Groundspeak Geocaching iPhone app I am going to sell my existing Garmin eTrex Legend. This is a used handheld GPS designed for outdoor use. It has WAAS for improved accuracy, is waterproof, and is great for Geocaching. The only downside is that this does not give driving directions. If you are looking for a car GPS this is not for you, but it is great for outdoor uses for Geocaching. The device is in great condition and comes with: Original Packaging Great condition Garmin eTrex Ledgend ($100 new) Converter cable to connect GPS using USB ($15 new) 2 Year Walmart product replacement plan ($10 when purchaced on 2/27/09) Total $125 value that I am selling for $75 saving you $50. I am a geocacher with over 200 finds and a verified Pay Pal user so the transaction is safe. I have never sold something over the internet with Pay Pal so this will be a new experience for me, but you can trust that this will be secure. The price is $75 and that price does not include shipping so that is up to you to decide how you want it shipped. Please reply with any questions or contact me if you are interested. +crowhess
I'm new to GEO cahcing. I may be interested in this item. How easy is it to use? Quote Link to comment
+Narniaexpert
This was my first GPS and I started using this when I began. I think that it is very easy to use. The I only have a few other GPSs to compare its ease of use to and it was much easier to use than those. The device is simple and has all the basic functions you would need for geocaching. There are only 6 buttons Power on/off Switch menu (Pressing this will switch from map mode to compass mode or any other modes that you need to switch to.) Navigate up Navigate down Navigation joystick (up, down, left, right, and click in to select) Find waypoint. Here is how you would do the two most important and basic functions, finding and marking geocaches. To find a geocache that you have saved to the device press find waypoint will bring up a list of the geocaches saved on the device sorted by which ones are the closest or sorted by alphabetical order. Then use the joystick to select the geocache you want to find and then select "go to". This will bring up a virtual compass to navigate you to the cache. After you find it you can even mark the cache as found to keep track of what caches you have found. To mark a waypoint onto the device press the switch menu button to take you to the main menu where there is a button to mark a waypoint. Selecting this will bring up options for type of waypoint, name, and location. Use the joystick to enter in this information with the onscreen keyboard and click ok. I have purchased a USB converter that I will be bundling with this you that you can connect the device to your PC or Mac for adding geocaches from Geocaching.com without needing to go in and manually import them. If you need any help with it I will be happy to explain how to use it more and give you free technical support. It also has the user manual and quick start guide that came with it so you can look in there for more detailed information (the quick start guide is one page front and back with basic instructions. This is very different then the multi volume encyclopedias that come with some products). Quote Link to comment
+TEAM HARTSOCK
I got nothing in this, so it isn't like I am trying to make a sale here... But as far as how easy it is to use, very easy. Good basic handheld GPS that I have seen many people use. I have the Legend HCx and it is simple enough to use, but also has additions that I never have touched. I also have one of these very Legends that I got as a reward from our bank, I put batteries in it and tested it and it seems just as easy. Have kept it on a shelf just incase I need a back up. I get paranoid that I might need to wait for the next paycheck and not be able to go caching if something happened to the HCx. lol Personally, IMO, I think this is a good intro GPS and know people that still use them after a few years and hundred of finds. +Searching John
How's the battery life? Also is it a HCX or a CX? Edited July 29, 2009 by Searching John Quote Link to comment
+Cardinal Red
can you download geo cache from computer to this unit? Yes, but the Interface is a serial port. Popular on older computers. Not so much on new ones. Will require a USB/Serial converter if you don't have a serial port available. How's the battery life? Also is it a HCX or a CX? John, this is a DISCONTINUED eTrex Legend. Exactly as advertised. No H, no C (4 level gray LCD), no X. The two AA batteries are advertised to give 18 hours of use. Battery life is never a concern to me though, because I always carry spares. eTrex Legend® Quote Link to comment
