+Harry Dolphin Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 I was looking for some interesting benchmarks in Pennsylvania to hunt for this weekend. I came across: KV2882. Described by FLDNR. ?!? The actual description is for this one: BE1733, near Callaway, Florida. Oh, well. Doesn't leave me with a description of what to look for in Pa. BE1733 is BE1733_MARKER: DJ = TIDAL STATION DISK BE1733_SETTING: 46 = COPPER-CLAD STEEL ROD W/O SLEEVE (10 FT.+) BE1733_SP_SET: COPPER-CLAD STEEL ROD BE1733_STAMPING: NO 1 1975 KV2882 is Q 362 PADH, SETTING: 30 = SET IN A LIGHT STRUCTURE. If it weren't so far up the railroad tracks, I might go looking for it to see what I can find! Quote
+Ernmark Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 (edited) ..being a PA boy - I'd peek at the 2 bridges over the stream to the SE of the tracks (Mt Bethel Hwy & Ye Olde Hwy). Most of the PADH* disks I've found were on wingwalls of bridges over streams & usually on the wingwall nearest the Keystone plaque indicating the bridge construction date.. - E * PA Dept of Highways in the middle of the 1900s & stamped P.D.H. (P.S.H.D in the early days & P.D.T. in the late 70s & 80s) ..although you may have found a few of these on previous 'incursions' into PA Edited April 16, 2009 by Ernmark Quote
+Harry Dolphin Posted April 16, 2009 Author Posted April 16, 2009 (edited) You're right! PADH wouldn't put a disk on a railroad bridge over a stream, would it? Highway bridge! Yeah. I've seen a few PADH disks. I think they're cute!! Interesting that the 362 series was monumented in 1978, but this one was logged by FLDNR in 1977. That must be what makes 'monumented UNK'. KV2882_MARKER: DJ = TIDAL STATION DISK KV2882_SETTING: 30 = SET IN A LIGHT STRUCTURE KV2882_STAMPING: NO 1 1975 KV2882_STABILITY: D = MARK OF QUESTIONABLE OR UNKNOWN STABILITY BE1733_MARKER: DJ = TIDAL STATION DISK BE1733_SETTING: 46 = COPPER-CLAD STEEL ROD W/O SLEEVE (10 FT.+) BE1733_SP_SET: COPPER-CLAD STEEL ROD BE1733_STAMPING: NO 1 1975 BE1733_MARK LOGO: NOS BE1733_STABILITY: B = PROBABLY HOLD POSITION/ELEVATION WELL Now, I am looking forward to finding this one!! (Of course, I'd have to write a new description...) Edited April 16, 2009 by Harry Dolphin Quote
+Harry Dolphin Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 Thanks, Ernmark. You hit it on the head. Culvert under Rte 512. South side of the highway. North part of the abutment on the west side. Hey, George, what do you make of this page? Guess it's time for an e-mail chat with Deb. Quote
Bill93 Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 (edited) You might see if you can follow the description on a FL map, get the coordinates for that area, and then search by coordinates for a disk that it got confused with. You posted here in Dec 2007 where there was a mixup between FL and PA. Edited April 20, 2009 by Bill93 Quote
+Harry Dolphin Posted April 21, 2009 Author Posted April 21, 2009 In my first post. The description by FLDNR is for BE1733 in Bay County, Florida. The problem is that there are some errors in the data sheet. Marker and stamping. Quote
