+ClimbGuy
Greetings everyone! I've had a new Oregon 300 for a few weeks now. I successfully completed a Wherigo cache. I was able to complete that one in one run with out having to do any saves. I started a new one the other day but because of wanting to conserve my vehicle trips I saved the cartridge and planned on picking up the other locations on a different day. When I was actually in the area of that spot rather than making extra trips. Reloading that saved Wherigo though has caused problems. It has kept track of the locations I've completed but will not allow me to browse any of the remaining locations. Before saving I could touch "locations" and see a picture of where I needed to go (this Wherigo shows you a picture of a location and you have to go find it). Now all I can see is the menu screen with locations showing me I have 7 left to go. I can only go by memory of the other locations in hopes of unlocking the details once I can complete the remaining ones. Or I could just restart the Wherigo and drive to all the locations and get it done without a save. Problem is that disagrees with my environmental friendly side not to mention the cost of gas. It also defeats the ability to save. Does anybody have any extra know how on this? I understand this Wherigo cartridge runs fine on Garmin Colorado's? Is this a known issue on the Oregon only, anybody else have this trouble? Thanks in advance! Just trying to figure out if it's the nature of the beast and it'll get better with future software releases or if theres something I can do differently to prevent it. I'm running the newest stable release 2.8 (not a beta) Thank you, Jeff (ClimbGuy) Quote Link to comment
Ranger Fox
It really does depend upon the cartridge and how it was made. For instance, more people are including custom code in their cartridges. This custom code is out of the Player's "view", so to speak, and, therefore, the variables and state are not saved when you save your cartridge. There are a few exceptions to this, but even so, it would require custom code to set the cartridge back up when someone resumes from a save. If someone created a cartridge that requires a lot of driving, I'd hope the person would have realized there is a higher chance someone would save the rest of the game for later (or even save it so they can view maps or find geocaches along the way). Try contacting the cartridge's author and asking him or her. Let everyone know here what you find. Quote Link to comment
+ClimbGuy
Thanks for the information. I did contact the owner. The response was that he knows several people who have been able to run it just fine with a Colorado and simply suggested I complete the entire series without saving to avoid the problem. He indicated he thought it was a problem with the Oregon. Quote Link to comment
kvhollis
It's my cartridge guys. No custom code on that particular cartridge (or any current ones - COUGH). I've heard the same from someone else locally running the Oregon they had issues resuming and just a week ago - a PPC user. Saturday I was fooling around and had it happen to me one time and then I tried it again later on and it resumed ok. I'm still thinking it's the Player on the device.... at least at this point. +ClimbGuy
Heard back from Garmin on the player version. Looks like they are hoping to release an updated version of the player once they get the Oregons most recent beta hammered out. Here is the message from Garmin: "Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I will be happy to assist you. I am sure the player version of the Where I Go feature will be updated, but we do not have an exact date or time frame of when this will happen. I am guessing once the beta software version is finalized it will include an update to the player as well. If you have any other questions please contact Garmin. With Best Regards, Gary H Product Support Specialist" Quote Link to comment
+ClimbGuy
Oh on that note I did figure out a work around for the issue. If your particular Wherigo stops displaying the tasks or any information on the screen press the Power button once to invoke the brightness adjustment screen. Then close the brightness adjustment screen. This seems to force a screen refresh in the Wherigo player and will redisplay your missing tasks list or other information. Hope that helps!
