ioimike
My wife got a Garmin Emap from one of her friends. I was looking at it trying to figure if it would be good for geocaching. Read that it ws one of the 1st gps out there, but I still don't know if you can use this for caching. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you. Quote Link to comment

I got my emap back around 2002 I used it to do a couple geocaches worked fine I just moved on to other interests only complications I see are do you have the cable to connect to a computer The connection on the emap is kind of finaky and it is only a serial connection when i moved onto a computer without serial i had to get a usb adapter which worked but serial tranfers are slow anyway you go about it You are probably going to have to enter the waypoints manualy It will probably be just as easy to get a later gps than to hookkup the emap Does your emap have a detailed map in it or are you going to have to load somthing that will tak awhile via the serial cable too I have used my emap approx 6 years I just updated to a 60csx this christmas and am going to do some geocaching I used my emap on my motorcycle quite a bit including two crosscountry trips Its a good unit the only limitation I see is the connection to a computer bob Quote Link to comment
Neos2
It will work well enough to get you started. You can do enough caches to see what your needs will be and then you'll know what you need in another unit. Here's a link to the manual if you need it. Some of us need maps and want electronic compasses, others prefer very simple gps functions. You won't know which kind of cacher you are until you've done some caching. Quote Link to comment
ioimike
No cables came with it. Been trying to mess around with it but I don't really know how to put the cords into it. Found an area where it gives cords but it looks nothing like what's on geocaching sites. Thanks again for the help. Quote Link to comment
