+xjjoe01
Not sure if anybody else here has tried, but my Verizon and Blackberry vehicle chargers both work fine with my Garmin Venture GPSr. I think any USB GPSr will also operate on "external power" using any cell phone car charger that has the micro USB connection on it. Hope this helps and maybe saves a few $$$. Joe Quote Link to comment
Ken in Regina
Hi Joe, That's a very good tip. Lots of people don't think to try it and buy another charger for their specific device when they might already have one that will work perfectly. It needs to be said that that the only real surprise would be if it did not work. The power output on a computer USB port is a very well defined standard for voltage, etc. So any device that is designed to take power from a computer USB port will be designed to that same standard. That means that the power adapters are all interchangeable. As you said, if it's got a mini-USB connector on it, it will work. ...ken... Quote Link to comment
+xjjoe01
Sorry for the duplicate post. I don't know why it did that. Joe Quote Link to comment
+Red90
To clarify, you mean a Venture HC...... A Venture does not have USB. Also, not all Garmin devices that have USB, power through the USB port. Basically only models that came out after the "X" series were launched. Quote Link to comment
T_well
Ok I have the Vista HCx coming in from Walmart ($165). Am I reading correctly that my Motorola cell phone car charger will work as an external power source for this unit without overpowering? I read on another website that it has to be 3V to 3.15V. I'm cheap and anything that saves me money is great. Quote Link to comment
