+laramie_falconer
I found a survey mark while out hiking today. I cant seem to find it anywhere to log it on the site. I wanted to see if I can find it in some database so that it can be added to the geocaching database, but I cant find anything about it. The coords are N 41* 15.838' W 105* 24.898' I have also attached horrible cell phone pictures. The stamped stuff says CCA8 and year appears to be 1988. Is it a lost cause finding info on it? DaveD
The Defense Mapping Agency (DMA), became the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) in 1996, which become the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) in 2003. This marker was probably set by one of excellent geodetic survey teams from the Geodetic Survey Squadron stationed in Cheyenne, WY. You can try contacting the NGA offices in St. Louis for info on this mark. Quote Link to comment

There's no way to update the database on Geocaching.com (it's a snapshot of the NGS database from 2000). The section "Benchmarks Not in the Database" on Geocaching's Benchmark Hunting page will give you more information. Also check out the "Me First" thread at the top of this forum.
