Green "loading" indicator on HCx, what is it loading?

I notice that when a mapset is loaded to a card and powered up that the first time you see a loading progress incator along the bottom of the screen before it boots.

What is actually happening here because obviously the maps are not being transferred to internal memory. Now what is more confusing is that sometimes I have loaded different maps then changed sets again but when I put the first mapset back, there is no green loading bar. So does this mean that something got loaded the first time and stayed in internal memory?

I've always assumed it was an index or checksum of some kind being calculated.

Right but then why doesn't it do it every time a map set is remade. It is as if whatever it did before, it has somehow held in internal memory.

I was thinking something like this which makes me wonder if the unit stores any and every unlock code that may have been used in it. Which makes me wonder about internal conflicts. I wonder if this is related to the recent fix in the software update about a problem with more than one unlock code used for a single unit.

Every time I upload a changed mapset it does it on my 60cx and i3. On small mapsets it happens so quickly that it might not be noticeable.

Does it on MetroGuide, which is unlocked, if that means anything to anyone.

The index, or whatever it is, could be on the card with an H attribute (and so be invisible to casual inspection),
