ssgeo83
I know someone who has a USB GPS receiver that plugs into a laptop. The receiver is then placed on the dashboard of the car and the map is on the laptop. Can the Garmin etrex vista cx be used as a receiver by plugging the etrex vista into the laptop and using the laptop as a screen? The etrex vista screen is small and it would be nice to use a laptop screen for maps and voice GPS for driving. Quote Link to comment
+Smegheads
Yes it works fine.. Depending on the mapping software you are using. If you are using Nroute from Garmin for instance (or even metroguide) it will efectively lock out the use. There is a way around this and it is to use a program called GPS gate (franson I think is the maker) this program allows you to create virtual com ports so you can share 1 reciever between many programs, It also emulates a Garmin. Its emulated Garmin mode works fine. EDIT: I forgot the Vista isn't the basic Yellow model.. So in that regards you probabally don't even need GPS Gate.
