Geocaching and Gift Card Collecting? Would it Catch On?

I have a Starbucks gift card and I also have been thinking of making it into a TB. Each person can use it, and pass it along, logging something interesting about their coffee purchase. At some point, someone will have to add money to it. However, given how long some of my geocoins and TBs last, I figure a gift card will be stolen quickly.
