+UncleJimbo
Hi newbie catcher - having a newbie question - what is the difference between travel bugs/geocoins other than the obvious. Thanks Not sure what the "obvious" is, but here goes. A travel bug is a tag with a tracking number. This tag is attached to an item (a "traveler"). A traveler can be almost anything (including a coin). A geocoin is a "coin" with a tracking number imprinted directly on it. Geocoins are usually shaped like coins (i.e., round, flat), but not always (some have various non-round shapes). The other major difference is that geocoins show up in your profile with their own icons, while travel bugs (except for certain special ones) just have a generic travel bug icon. +Night Stalker
Not all geocoins have tracking numbers, or if they do have been activated. I like to put geocoins in caches that do not have tracking numbers or if the do are not activated. I advise in my log that I have done this so the finder has the choice of collecting the coin or activating it and sending it on its way. Quote Link to comment
