+1-moore Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Anyone have experience with a usb to serial cable from a company called Northstar GPS? They have one listed on Ebay for about $22 w/ shipping. I've read that these cables can be kinda tricky and don't always work. Quote
sanramonhunter Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 (edited) just got this one of ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-to-RS232-Serial-9P...1QQcmdZViewItem just installed and worked okay on my system. They ship from china, mine got here in about a week and a half, don't know how long to get to you, but they don't promise speedy delivery. just delivery. TOLady Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 I fumbled around with a bunch until I got the Nexxtech brand, worked like a charm. Quote
+rsarich Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 My experience with these is to stick with ones that use the prolific chip in them, they seem to do the best. Quote
+ollave Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 My experience with these is to stick with ones that use the prolific chip in them, they seem to do the best. My experience is contrary: the Prolific USB-serial converters I've had access to have been buggy. The Windows drivers provided for them seem to know how to work around the problems; on other operating systems I'd say Prolific are definitely not recommended. Unfortunately many (most?) suppliers can't/won't tell you what chipset a cable uses. Quote
