Newbie Geocoin making question

Rock-it Radio

Recommended Posts

Hello,

We are really new to Geo Caching ... and on our first hunt yesterday we found a Geo Coin and Geo Bug. We snagged and entered it and plan on passing them on, however, we are also planning on making our own first Geo Cache Hide.

My wife is a potter and we want to make our own 'Clay' Geo Coins. They would be high fired so fairly sturdy ... not as sturdy as metal of course but strong enough we think. What we are wondering about though is ... Is it possible to put our own tracker numbers on it? And would it be trackable through Groundspeak?

Thanks for your help in advance!

All the best,

Bennie & Jan

hey Rock-it Radio!

Welcome to your new home. you'll find the folks here very helpful and amazingly friendly.

You'll need to start with reviewing the information pinned at the top of this forum to get the low-down on how to mint your own coin. Check it out here

And here to learn about tracking #s. To get tracking #s you'll need to purchase at least 100 at $1.50 apiece to get a custom name, and 250 to get a custom icon (the icon costs an additional $150), ...so it's not an inexpensive undertaking.

BUT it is WELL worth it to hold your own custom coin. And it is even cooler when people want to start trading for your coin.

I'm pretty sure non-metal coins will require approval from Groundspeak... but there are several pottery coins out there... Check out the Four Spirit Geocoin ... it's one of my favorites!

SOOO Dude and Dudette, welcome to the obsession

Aloha Rock-it!

I also love making things out of clay, and while pressing tiles in my studio it dawned on me that they would make great travel bugs! I bought some travel bug dog tags, wrote the numbers on the back of the moist tiles (along with some instructions), and Tiki's Travelin' Tiles were born! They got a lot of miles on them, but I think they have stalled out. I need to make some more! I can't wait to see what you guys make -
