gallet
These are white rectangular numbered labels that appear on a route that has been loaded directly to the GPSr. The route was made in maps.google and then loaded to the GPSr using takitwithme.com Each point on the Route (and there are lots) is numbered with a white square, but they do not show up as waypoints. It makes it really difficult to see the route. I have gone through all the map options (including declutter) regarding the zoom level where waypoints and other things show up but I have not been able to find a setting that has any effect on these square numbers. gallet
On further examination it would appear that this is a bug or oversight as I can find no way to turn off the route point labels which means that if a tight route is marked out and transferred to the GPSr then the route labels totally obscure the track if you try and look ahead by zooming out a bit. dogwalkers2
I tried it with a route I have on my GPS and see what you mean about not being able to turn the labels off. I think that it is probably an oversight on someone's part. I've never built routes in the method you describe, but it sounds like either maps.google or the other website you use create the route more like a track, with all the waypoints, but still call it a route. Is there any way of saving it as a track rather than a route? At least that way, if possible, would get rid of all the interim waypoints. I guess the lesson learned is that a route should contain fewer waypoints (what Garmin calls "via points") while a track can have the large number of points, occurring whenever the direction changes (or time or distance, as the case may be if you log it). So, like I said, it seems that if you are able to save your plan from the other of software/websites as tracks rather than routes, it should do what you want. gallet
Thanks for confirming that. You are correct that I can save it with less points and usually I would but for bushwalking tracks I like to have it pretty accurate. However I will investigate the possibility of saving it as a track, which gave me the idea of trying to edit the gpx file in a text editor by just changing the <rte> and <rtept> tags to <trk> and <trkpt> tags using a find and replace. That appears to be the only difference, I'll give that a go. I've written to Garmin to see if they can add it to their next software update. Here's what it looks like if anyone is interested.
