+MaineSleddah
While I am relatively new to Geocaching, I am not new to using a GPS. Been using one since it first became public. Geocaching just seemed a natural way for me to go. I recently spent a rather long amount of time looking for a cache that come to find out the guy's GPS's map datum was set on Australian! Needless to say the difference was well over 500 feet and we came away without the find. As a hunter I have always used the NAD27 datum to match my topo maps. I have been using WGS84 for Geocaching. There can be as much as 900 feet difference using the wrong datum! What map datum is most commonly used for Geocaching here in the United States? Quote Link to comment
+Cache_advance
definitely the wgs84 datum. some cachers also use UTM. both can be found on the cache listing page. Quote Link to comment
Motorcycle_Mama
WGS84 is the datum used on Geocaching.com. Quote Link to comment
Tahosa and Sons
definitely the wgs84 datum. some cachers also use UTM. both can be found on the cache listing page. WGS is the datum. UTM's are format. The Lat & Long on the Frogs Page is WGS84 and so is the UTM's. If you use Nat. Geo's Topo you can play with the datums and formats. Adjust the datums and formats to whatever is useful where you go and what maps you use. Quote Link to comment
