+Jake81499 Posted August 25, 2007 Author Posted August 25, 2007 VERY Bigtime Bummer! Are they going to replace it with something else or is there something else? The PDA was a heck of a handy tool when you have to drive 200 miles to find caches. In fact it was the first thing I've found to make my PDA usefull. I guess one alternative would be to print the GSAK list to a file and read it that way. Quote
+cache_test_dummies Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 The thread I linked to has a long list of people looking for solutions, so I don't know the answer. You could email MobiPocket - if enough people ask them to work with GC.com, perhaps this can be revitalized. Out of curiosity, what kind of PDA do you use? If it's a Palm device, you don't need an e-Book solution. You can use GSAK and something like Plucker. Quote

If Palm then use cachemate. Quote

What I do is export my cache database in HTML, then use the free program Sunrise XP to convert it for Plucker on the Palm. (Also free) The result is a home page with several links on it o pre-sorted searches, and you can quickly find a cache page from that. When you open a cache page it looks very similar to an actual online page, complete with icons, and if you have a good enough screen, photos. Quote
+Night Stalker Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 (edited) If you are a Pocket PC user you can use GPX View in addition to GPX Sonar. Either one will read the GPX files, but GPX Sonar supports the newer operating system while GPX View will not. Oh yeah. GPX view is FREE if you are cheap like me that can be important. +sisters4 Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 I stressed when I went to load my stuff for a day of caching this morning and found out there was no more mobipocket files! HOWEVER, I loaded and used Cachemate all day and find that I like it much better than mobipocket, so stress is over! Quote

New caches threw it off. I also tried using Explorer to read a HTML that I'd saved. That was a waste because it wouldn't work past the B's. I tried savingthem as Word documents and that didn't work either. The PDA wouldn't read them properly. I'll look at the files in the other post to see how they work. The Descripton, Hint and Found status is all that's really needed in a Query. (For me anyhow.) Tim Quote

Ok, I downloaded and installed the GPX Sonar and it seems to work well. It's easyer to use than the PocketMobi eBooks (so far). It's much faster also. Thanks very much for the help on this. I don't mind going off to do some caching with no information but it really helps to know what you're looking for. I printed everything out to books that I need for my areas but it doesn't do much good for new caches. Plus I could see my toner bill going through the roof. It looks like GPXsonar will do the trick.
