Etrex legend (blue) and number of chars in waypoint name

I have an etrex legend (blue). I know its supposed to support 10 character waypoint names.

 

When I'm looking at the waypoints list (sorted by nearest or by name) I see my waypoints that do actually have 10 characters, and all 10 characters are there.

 

However, once I select a waypoint to goto, on both the compass screen and the map screen I only see 9 characters.

 

Missing this last character is irritating as I often use it to designate a stage of a multi and things like that.

 

I've looked everywhere and I don't see any settings related to this. Is this a known limitation?

The actual character limit IS 10 characters. In some places, the display area is too small to show the whole thing, so if you're using it as described, you may find it more useful to limit them to 9 characters.
