Moosede Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 First off I say THANK YOU to all who helped with my last plea for help. Now for the latest need, I am using a Garmin V that will talk to one computer but not another. I am using a usb to serial adapter and the software that came with it. Works great on a Sotec laptop but gets several errors when tried on a Dell. Cannot open serial port, program recieved info it does not understand, gps unit contains no waypoints, etc. Help!!!!!!! +Jim W Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 Right click MY Computer, then click Properties, click Hardware tab, click Devise Manager, click the + on Universal Serial Bus controllers, and see if you have any yellow flags Quote
Jim W Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 (edited) You say you have ver 3, is that City Select North America v3 or MapSource v3? The latest version of MapSource is 6.11.6 you can download the latest version HERE Edited December 29, 2006 by Jim W Quote
Moosede Posted December 29, 2006 Author Posted December 29, 2006 City Select setup cd v3, City Select North America v6, MapSource v6.01 Quote
Jim W Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 Update MapSource to 6.11.6, some of the older versions of MapSource did not support USB, one other question, is the Dell a desk top computer? if so does it have a 9 pin serial port? Quote
Moosede Posted December 29, 2006 Author Posted December 29, 2006 Both are laptops. Using usb to serial adapter. Same ver of software on both. Quote
Jim W Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 (edited) Is there some kind of setup in the usb to serial adapter software? you might try and uninstall the usb to serial adapter software, and reinstall it, other than that I'm running out of options, you may try and go to Control Panel, and Add Hardware Edited December 29, 2006 by Jim W Quote
Moosede Posted December 29, 2006 Author Posted December 29, 2006 I have tried all of that and nothing works. I am out of options that is why I am here! Quote
