Help with X500 and laptop...

Recommended Posts

Hey all. This my query. I have the Explorist 500 and a Dell 700M laptop, with Micro$oft Streets and Trips installed. Is there a way to use the GPS with S & T as a tracking device? I am wanting to use the GPS feature in S & T. When I get it all loaded up it gives COM 3 as the only option to connect. Do I need a serial to USB adapter of some sort? Thanks. (I searched but didn't see anything too helpful). I need stuff dumbed down a bit, lol.

You have to find what com port is assigned to your eX500 when it is NMEA mode.

Plug in cord to USB and unit (cord running down the back, not up.)

Turn on eX500 and choose NMEA, 2.1.

You now check your list of modems, and find the com port assigned to it. You might go: Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Mgr, Modems, eX500, properties, Modem.

In your mapping program, choose this port.

Thanks, I read one of your other posts describing this. MIne registers as "other USB device", and doesn't show up under modems...
