After a chace is found.

Yes. The idea is to find it, sign the log and if you want to take something from the cache you should leave something of your own in the cache. The cache should then be re-hidden in the same place so it is ready for the next person to find. Then you go online and log your find on the cache's homepage.

I'm assuming you mean cache.

The purpose of the cache is to have something that must be found at the listed coordinates. Not all caches are containers- such as earthcaches which require that you locate a special feature of the area or a sign or something else that signifies you are in the right area.

Container caches usually have something to write on (referred to as a log) inside the container. For the most part you write your name on the log to leave tangible proof that you did actually find it and you were actually there. Not every one writes their name on the log and it is not required. Writing in the log gives others an idea of who was there before them and how often the cache has been visited.

Some caches do have trade items. These items are little keepsakes left by others or the cache owner that you can trade for. The keepsakes may be things which someone has left that tells a little bit about themselves - crafted items for example- or these keepsakes are something that might be helpful to someone who finds the cache and has need of them like toilet paper (for those long hikes), bandaids, a toy to entertain the kids,etc.- or these keepsakes may be something cute or clever or fun that have no other purpose than to take with you as a remebrance of your trip. You do not have to trade items. You can just leave a little something for the next cacher if that is what you desire. If you do decide to trade be sure to leave something of equal value. Try to leave a cache as good or better than you found it for the next cacher. As much as possible leave it in as good a condition as you would like to find it in.
