+evelbug Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 I don't know if this has been addressed or if it is even possible, but I think having the ability to look up or log caches by text message would be nice. I've used the WAP from my phone, but that can be a little clunky. Here's what I'm thinking: Have an e-mail address set up for text messages. For example SMS@geocaching.com First you'd need to register you phone. Perhaps by sending a message containing "registger [username]". Then you would get a message back containing a code. Fom the website, you enter the code and this allows you access from that phone. To look up a cache, send a message containing: "cache GCxxxx" or something like that, and it will reply with the cache name, co-ordinates and short description. Have other functions available like description (for full description), hint, last5log (that would let you pull up the last logs) To log the cache, you would send "found GCxxxx <your log entry>" or "notfound GCxxxx <your log entry>", "note GCxxxx <your log entry>", etc.
Hillbilly-Rockstar Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Not bad but it would have to be a premium member feature since it would cost money to send all those texts. Although maybe not because can't you SEND text messages for free using that add on from Google?
+evelbug Posted October 3, 2006 Author Posted October 3, 2006 you can send a message to a phone via e-mail. There are other programs that send SMS messages via the Internet, but I'm not sure exactly how the do it. The cost is on you sending or receiving them. Just have to make sure you have a txt plan on your phone
+alexrudd Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 As a cache owner, I'd be really annoyed if I started getting text message logs. "fnd tdy thx 4 t cach."
