450rydr
Hi all- I am just getting into geo-caching, and have a quick question. I currently own a Magellan GPS 2000 XL Are these decent GPS'? I bought it new, years ago, and have never really used it. Are the new GPS set-ups more accurate? Does anybody have any experience with this model? I don't know much about it, but I plan on using it to get started in this new hobby. I don't need mapping because I have maps of the areas I will be playing in. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.---450 Quote Link to comment
+Cardinal Red
I'm not a Maggie owner. But a quick Google search turned up this: Description and Photographs of Magellan™ Handheld GPS Receivers Looks like your 2000 XL has everything you need to find Caches. Good hunting. Quote Link to comment
arthurking83
I had my GPS2000 at the same time I got my Meridian..it reported exactly the same position 99.5% of the time I was out doors. It was limiting in the functions it didn't have, compared to the Meridian...but if load 250 waypoints, give them a name that may mean something (relative to each cache) hit goto, it's still going to get you there...albeit it may lose lock a bit sooner than a Meridian (or any newer GPS) I suspect, under heavy tree cover, indoors, ...etc. I eventually sold mine (regret it now, as I would have like to keep it as an antique! ) but I really don't need 3 GPS's, coming up to 4! If it's working...use it! If you want to upload the latest maps, software, or caches directly from your PC get an explorist/Garmin/whatever that handles gpx file types...and all!
