+SpaceCowboys
I seem to recall some posts about this, but since I can't search, I'm going to have to trouble you all for some responses, please. From my research, it seems the I3 allows for uploading of POI's through Garmin's software, which means that I can put in all the local caches and then use the device to get me there on the roads and then as a directional device to the actual cache location. Has anyone used this device as such? Is it at all useful for recording waypoints for hiking and such? I really like the device because it's cheap, and portable, and we can use it outside of the car when walking around cities on vacation. I'm REALLY trying to avoid getting two receivers (as it seems a lot of posts indicate). Quote Link to comment

I have an i3, which does allow you to enter the coords, but doesn't tell you how far you are from a particular location. From watching it at road junctions, it appears to make a best guess which road it's on, and then shifts the displayed location to there. This means that caches close to a roadside may not be easy to find. You would be better off getting a second unit, probably. I find the i3+Summit combo is pretty good - the electronic compass on the Summit is handy for GCing. However, if I was going to buy again, I would probably get a VistaCx. H Quote Link to comment
