+CanadaDry Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 I've noticed in some of the Vancouver cache logs that cachers have found hypodermic needles around cache areas. I read in the Georgia Straight awhile back that if you call the Downtown Eastside Youth Activities Society (who run a needle exchange) they will come by and safely pick the needle(s) up. All you have to do is call 604-307-9996 and tell them where the needle is located. I'm not sure if they take GPS coordinates though... I posted this info in a cache log, but figured I'd repost it here. Here's to safe geocaching! CanadaDry Quote
BC Tripper Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Thanks for posting this information! It was my cache that you logged it in, and I've swung by to check for hypos. None in the area, but I can think of at least a dozen caches that have had this problem before. Cheers! BC Tripper Quote
+CanadaDry Posted November 15, 2005 Author Posted November 15, 2005 No problem! I always get weirded out when I find hypodermic needles laying around public places--who knows what nasty things could be in them! I think it is best to have "professionals" dispose of them. I hope that by posting this information the cache sites around Vancouver where needles appear will be reported and cleaned up. What do you think of getting the Downtown Eastside Youth Activities Society a GPSr so they can go caching for needles? Just a thought... CanadaDry Quote
CharlieZulu Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Man, that is really depressing. I'm so glad I'm basically a rural cacher, and the worst thing I ever see is some garbage... we are so lucky here in the GTA (for caching, that is..I'd rather be in the Okanagan from a lifestyle and scenery point of view but that's another story. ). There is simply no end to the new caches here every week. Quote
BC Tripper Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 It is really sad, but unfortunately its our reality too. Its great to see that there are places out there who offer this service. Kudos to them! BC Tripper Quote
