ATMouse Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 Just wondering if there are any other Red Cross folk out there caching. Shoot - the scouts, the military, the police all have their own threads...! Quote

+TheAlabamaRambler Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 I'm a cross-breed, a volunteer amatuer radio operator and logistics coordinator for FEMA, the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. I spent 30 days in Biloxi's Yankee Stadium Salvation Army distribution center after Katrina and still work daily with victims from home via telephone and with the displaced living in FEMA trailers in Alabama's state parks, sourcing everything from eyeglasses to specialized medical devices, pet adoption, relocation to replacement vehicles.. It's the best of all worlds in volunteer work - being a multi-agency volunteer means not having to be loyal to or bound by the political or command chains of any organization, yet able to pull resources from all of them. I have personal ID, car ID and uniforms from all three and can switch 'em at a moments notice, depending on who the victim I am working with needs help from. Thanks to all you volunteers for what you do - you make this an amazing world to live in! Ed Quote
+SlowFlyer Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 My local chapter has an EMS team that I volunteer on, covering concerts, sporting events, etc. in the city. Unfortunately, due to my full time job I havn't been able to do much lately, however. Quote
+TeamK-9 Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 My brother was on the local Red Cross Disaster Action Team for quite some time. He wasn't a fire responder, but he went to major natural disasters. He was pretty much THE ham radio operator for the chapter. I was sort of his assistant. After he left home, I worked with the red cross for about another year, but soon after lost interest... Quote
