ArtMan
The David Rumsey Collection has a variety of old maps online along with some innovative ways of viewing them. A quick scan suggest this might be better for browsing, rather than quickly looking for one particular location. It's a worldwide collection, not just U.S., and most are far from the kind of scale that will be useful in benchmark hunting, but it's an interesting site nonetheless for those interested in cartography. Lewis and Clark fans will want to have a look at this link in particular. -ArtMan- Quote Link to comment
+NorStar
I think I had come across this site once, but had forgotten about it. The collection of the old maps of Boston are wonderful by themselves, but, through the GIS viewer, they have scaled each map precisely so that it is easy to compare the old shorelines with the new and get a real sense of how Boston grew over time. And, I was captivated by the timeline feature that displays the maps, one by one through time! Thanks! Quote Link to comment
yoderc
This map collection is really great. I ran across it while doing geneology research. I found several farms from several ancestors marked on county maps from the 1876 US atlas. It was quite a thrill. Quote Link to comment
