  1. I really wanted to get a carabiner clip for my Dakota 20, specifically to clip to my day pack, but never got around to it! Perhaps if I had one, I wouldn't be shopping for a new GPS!! Thanks so much!!
  2. Thanks so much I definitely prefer woodsy caches with a nice hike attached to them, so I do not consider myself a parking lot cacher I think I will bite the bullet and order the Oregon 450 tonight!! I don't need a camera as I will most likely always have my iPhone handy Thanks again!!
  3. I have no idea where it is. I may have just put it somewhere stupid, but so far it's not looking so good for finding it! Anyway, I *think* I do really well geocaching with my iPhone and Geocaching app, but I still hate to be without a true GPS. If the iPhone seems to suit me well, would I be a fool to spend the couple hundred dollars to get another GPS. I worry that my iPhone will fail me deep in the woods or just lack some feature I need. I was thinking of going for the Oregon 450. Thanks for your opinions
  4. Thanks for the info! You have been most helpful through my recent "issues" Thanks again! Helga
  5. Well, for those of you who saw my post last week, my Vista HCx is broke I called Garmin support and he said it would need to be sent in for repair at a flat rate of $89. I kind of wanted a new (touch screen) GPS anyway, so I bought a Dakota 20 and I think I will give the (repaired) Vista to my hubby. Any drawbacks to the Dakota 20? I am anxiously awaiting its arrival, even though I just ordered it about 20 mins ago, LOL!! Thanks! Helga
  6. Trust me, there will be no baking. It is rather chilly here tonight!! I just ran out to check it and there is nothing...not even that one lone satellite. Boo! Thanks! Helga
  7. Thanks for the info! I have an iPhone, so I can use the Geocahing app as backup, but it never seems to get me very close, LOL. It is sitting out on the dash of my car as I sit here and research the Dakota 20!! Thanks again! Helga
  8. Okay! I am going to do that right now! I am so frustrated...but I am also a shop-a-holic, so I may use this as an excuse to run out and buy one of those fancy, touch screen models
  9. I am currently having issues with mine, but up until this point, I would highly recommend it!! It has always gotten me super close to my caches!! Thanks! Helga
  10. Argh, I am so frustrated I kept trying to do the master reset thing and it wasn't working for me. I finally got one satellite circling the thing but that is all it will do. (Then I finally got it to do a master reset and I still have that one, lone satellite and nothing else) Any other ideas/suggestions. I doubt it is still under warranty. I got it when they were first released. **ETA: My software version is pretty old, so I just did a software update. It said that a chipset update was also available. I tried the chipset update 3 times and it failed each time. What does that mean? Thanks Helga
  11. It does say "Acquiring Satellites" but that's about it. I left it outside on the deck with a clear view of the cloudy sky for over 30 minutes with no change Here's an awful pic of the screen: Thanks Helga
  12. Unfortunately no I checked that. Thanks! Helga
  13. I just used my Garmin Vista HCx to find a geocahe after work yesterday and when I went to use it today, it wouldn't lock on to any satellites. I put fresh batteries in, etc, with no resolve. All I get is the circles with the N, S, E, & W, no bars at the bottom, no rotating satellites, NOTHING. What could be wrong? Any suggestions? It has never been dropped and it has only been used maybe 50 times, tops. Thanks! Helga
  14. Sue...If I am ever in Oregon, I am going to stop by Oak Grove and kiss your feet! I just did it with one file...gonna go play around some more!! Thanks SO much!! Helga
  15. So, I have some .gpx files loaded into GSAK, and I have GPX Sonar loaded on my (new to me) Dell Axim X3i, now what? How do I get those .gpx files to my PDA? On GSAK, I thought I should go to file->export->GPX/LOC file Then I don't know what to do...I click "Generate" and it does something, but I don't know where it goes, how to find it, or if it even got to my PDA. Can someone help?? Thanks Helga
  16. Thanks! Rather than buying the City Nav NT for my Vista, I just bought one of the cheap Nuvi 200s.
  17. Geez, I hope this isolated incident didn't turn you or your family off to Geocaching! It really is a GREAT time! I think all you Cachers near Cedar Park, Texas should get together and do a group caching event geared toward this cache...in the evening, bring some of your own dogs to drive his dogs nuts...LOL!! Helga
  18. Is the City Nav NT maps program that I can buy for my Vista HCx the same program that comes installed in the Garmin Nuvi?? Thanks Helga
  19. I am pretty sure I have the media edition...but I guess it is more important that it work on my laptop! Thanks for the info...Scott I will read your PM and get back to you! Thanks Helga
  20. For paperless caching. I don't need anything super fancy or top of the line...just something functional!! Please PM me!! Thanks Helga
  21. I have an older Palm, which serves me really well for paperless caching, but I have to have an old dinosaur of a computer hooked up to use it. I want to be able to do everything from my laptop (Vista) and/or desktop (XP). Don't need anything top-of-the line or expensive, but I am willing to spend money for the convenience! Can anyone help me out?? Thanks Helga
  22. I, personally, think it was rude...but I tend to be a very courteous person. I would have asked to join or just stood back and waited my turn! That's just my style, though!
  23. If I log it as retrieving it from the cache, will the previous holder still be able to log it as placing it in that cache? Sorry if its a dumb question!
  24. I found a RJTB in a cache on Friday. When I went to log it, it was not listed as being in that cache or being retrieved from the previous cache it was in. Last time this happened, it took a day or two for the previous TB holder to catch up on his logs. How long is customary to wait for a person to catch up on their logs in reference to TBs? Thanks!
