  1. 4X5shooter: Please contact Garmin and let them know that the contour lines are not improved in this new version. As a matter of fact, I would say that they are mostly un-readable. I don't want to be the only one complaining about this because it may not get fixed. Thanks
  2. I disagree with: Improved map colors for contour lines. When I use Topo (100K, not 24K), I can barely see some of the contour lines now. Hmm.
  3. I have tried the following: Belkin F8E713 Belkin F8P5701 Fellowes Palm V Fellowes Palm Zire The Fellowes were absolutely the worst. The Belkin F8713 worked the "best", but only marginally. Based upon the other posters I have not tried Strong. Maybe a dumb question, but has anybody asked Garmin for advice? - John
  4. I never got mine emailed either. But you can get it from Mapsource by doing this: Go to "Tools" and then "Unlock Regions" Choose "Backup" Name the file and save it. Open the file with Notepad. Mine was a 26 digit code followed by my GPS ID. The first character is ignored to give my 25 digit code. There is another way to do this but I just can't remember off the top of my head. Oh yeah, I remember. When you are in the "Unlock regions" screen, click on the region and then select "Properties". The code will be displayed.

  6. Is this happening with the compass on or off? Try it both ways.
  7. Have you tried changing the map "Detail" to something like "Most" or "More"?
  8. Yes, I have been using Mapsource Topo for over a year. It works great in the outdoors! Thumbs up.
  9. Thanks for all the replies. Special thanks to RSorak for the picture!
  10. Just buy one! I have been really impressed with mine. The satellite receiver appears to work better than my Rino 120 The Autorouting with City Select is totally awesome! And the Topo maps work great in the outdoors. I have only had mine lock up twice, when it lost reception and was trying to recalculate a route. Not a big issue with me. I would buy two of them if I could think of a good reason! Just do it!
  11. I use North up always also. I am used to that orientation. Try them both and see which works better for you.
  12. Well I ordered a package of these for my new 60CS after seeing a couple of favorable links. However, I can't honestly recommend them. Not only are they too big for the 60C series (no big deal to trim I guess), but the distortion of the protector makes the screen look all pixelated. My search continues.... Yes, thank you for the info. I tried the Belkin PDA's ones (F8E713) and have the same problem. So I am still looking too...
  13. I had this happen once. The 60CS lost satellite reception and tried to recalculate a route, but then froze. I had to press and hold the power off button for several seconds to get it to turn off.
  14. Does anyone know if the track lines for the 60C(s) can be made darker or a different color? If so, how. Thanks.
  15. Go to the map setup page and change the display mode to night.
  16. I agree. Generally speaking an external antenna will give you better reception because of higher gain.
  17. I believe your answers are: 1. yes. 2. the original maps are still there, but the regions from City Select that you loaded will take priority over the original "basemap". The basemap will be used for any areas that you don't have City Select installed.
  18. Did you let City Select do your autorouting or did you let your CS do it. I entered addresses for both ends when I did mine and on the map it showed the right route but for some reason when I hit the over/underpasses it wanted me to turn around. murph I let the CS do it. I have not tried that yet with City Select.
  19. I tried it for the first time today, on the way home from work, and it worked great. I was really impressed with how well it routed and how easy it was to use. I didn't even have to look at the users manual to figure it out. I especially like the auto zoom in/out, the highlighting of turns, and the navigational text (like time, distance, which exit to take). The 60CS is great!
  20. My 60CS has also "crashed" once while following a road. It just stopped. I changed to a different page and then back to the map page and then it worked.
  21. So I just go my Garmin 60CS and was planning on using my PDA screen overlays as a screen protector. However, it doesn't work very well (looks crummy). Any recommendations regarding what screen protector to use for this unit? Sorry if this has been posted before. - John
  22. I may have mis-read the manual. On page 67 is says allow GPS receiver to determine elavation. So this may mean that it will just use the satellites to calibrate the barometer (once). Sorry about that. If I can't turn off the barometer then I will consider this to be a bummer. From my personal experience with climbing/hiking in the mountains, the satellites calculate altitude more accurately than the barometer, which is contrary to what Garmin says. - John
  23. I have not got my 60CS yet (probably today), but the manual states that you can use the satellites to calculate the altitude if you like, instead of the barometer.
