  1. Can someone please explain how someone can receive notification 12 hrs. ahead of my e-mail notification? Are cell phones given priority or are cells more efficient than the net e-mail ? And while a cache was placed 4 miles away, we received no notification at all? Not a complaint or rant, just an honest question needing an answer!
  2. would you feel better if they logged online? not only some people don;t log online but some log late, the fact that is no log online when you leave home doesn't mean anything, so get used to the idea that you may not be first and enjoy the adventure we used to make runs for FTF, but the main reason was hoping to run into the other hounds, which would mean that we'll have a nice geochat afterward Actually these were found last week....had I known that, I'da looked for some elsewhere!! And, I'm waving the white flag, I surrender..y'all are right!
  3. Ok ya'll I stand corrected (actually I'm sitting) but you know what I mean...It just kinda irritated me to have spent 3 hrs tripping through the woods only to find that we were # 2! Enjoyed the hunt, and it was a great day for a walk!
  4. I cannot understand why someone who was FTF would not log it. We found two caches that had both had logs signed as an FTF. However, there has never been a posting on the sight to indicate that the had ever been found. We were looking for an opportunity to get our first Mo. FTF's at these two caches..But they had been found and the log signed...If they are never posted on site, do they really count as FTF's?? OR, are we the second to find, first and only ones to POST reallythe true FTFs??
  5. Ah, Embra, I knew I could depend upon you! It seems like, I now discover, the pq's are being loaded as waypoints. If I go there first, and allow them to post to the gps, then go to geocaching, they will show up. However, I am only able to load one file at a time to the sd card. I thought the idea here was to allow multiple files. I create a file...Jonesboro on the gps. Go to CR, download pq Jonesboro...that wipes out my Ellsinore caches, and vice versa..so what's up? Will check up on the deloreme site, thanks for the clue!1
  6. Haven't had an opportunity to utilize gps since downloading all the new firmware and Cr 2...and not having any luck getting caches to gpsr. Anyone got a step x step how to??

  8. Worth the $10 that I did not have to pay! Yes!! Looking forward to getting to use it!! The use of a directory and being able to put caches on the SD card was one of my biggest hopes for DeLorme gps. Really liked Magellans system, and I know I'll like this when I get to use it! BTW, is the Golden Bear Coffee House still there? Guess they rebuilt the pier too..Spent a LOT of time in H.B.!! Would ride my bicycle from Los Altos (Long Beach) to the state park at the end of Hwy 39 to go body surfing or rent surf riders for the day.
  9. Ok, since My gps is in MO and I'm in the process of moving from KS and still here for another week, my question is how is it working out?
  10. I'll bet your right....I had forgotten that I'd changed to 1.0.1....it was after that the problem occured.
  11. What would be causing caches being downloaded to appear as waypoints rather than geocaches?...Have no caches loaded, but 500 waypoints instead. Thanks, Jim
  12. I agree! Quality of cache is important to me...if I want numbers, I'll look for a lamppost, but usually I'll filter out those. All of my caches(only 6 ) are at some area of historical significance. One I'd liked to place was at the old Mudd ranch, but the owner rightfull so refused permission. Afraid that items of significant historical value would be removed and forever lost. Others, I've refrained from doing because of plans to relocate this year to another state.
  13. 'bout right! Liked the 40 se well enough that I bought a 40 for the wife (just before the announcement of se's being available again)and retired both 500le's!!
  14. Navigating: laptop running Streets & Trips Caching PN 40SE, Magellan 500 as a back up + cachemate. AND, awaiting Cache Register to top it off!
  15. Really impressed with the plug in, gonna make cachin life so much simpler!! With the forthcoming addition of firmware and Cache Register, my Maggies are history!!...
  16. At Geocaching.com, make your PQ's LESS than 200, I usually do about 190 to allow for child waypoints The 500 will only allow a max of 200 waypoints. You will need a membership to do PQ's, but is well worth the money. In GSAK, Select "Database" "New". Enter name of PQ to identify. Select "Create". Go to "File" Select "Load GPX/ LOC/ Zip" In pop up, browse to where your downloaded PQ's are. Select PQ Select database Select "OK" GSAK will display all waypoints. Go to top, select "GPS" Select "Export to Magellan explorist" That should do it! The explorist 500 has been a great unit for us, we've two of them, as long as you don't need support from Magellan. That said, we're moving on to a new GPS. I'm experiencing quite a learning curve on the Delorme PN40 se. I think once I get the basics down it will really be great! Still keeping the Maggis though!
  17. Actually, I'll be looking for this one with my grandchildren today and won't even need the PN-40: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=N+33%c2%b0+3....278+(GC1H5GZ)+ Goodness, I grew up in that area 60+ years ago, my how it has changed!! used to be nothing but bean fields along Talbert Rd. Now the 605 runs right over wher the house used to be!
  18. I haven't had any experience with Garmins. Coming from a Magellan 500 to the 40 Pn was a bit of a shock as far as the learning curve goes, however as I use the 40, I have become a little more comfortable with it. Still have to use my cheat sheet that I've written to get me through the steps, and have only had time to visit one cache using it so far. I like the availability of the net link maps, and can't wait till my next cache trip to use it. I don't think you'll regret buying it...and Delorme gives you 30 days to try it or return it no questions asked, so you can't lose!! Also, the Delorme forum will give you some great guidance, the company employees also maintain a presence (on their own free time)on the forum site. As a plus, they are working on some new geocache specific items which I hope will greatly simplify the downloading of caches. Jim
  19. Ok, anyone up for this? We're McDonalds..Jim and Cheryl. When I registered it was only using my name, but would really like something reflecting the two of us.Perhaps some thing Celtic to reflect our Irish heritage, We're 63, soon to retire (less than 400 days) to SE MO from KS. Currently using two Explorist 500's, but awaiting the arrival of a De Loreme PN40. Other pastimes are reading, woodworking and quilting. Thanks in advance Jim McDonald
  20. Last time I used the route utility, I had to indicate stretches between towns in order for it to map out the route I wanted. Ended up with 4 separate files, but it worked well. May not be the easiest way but it worked!
  21. The site has a download that works on Ser # 0133. gives new screens and WAAS. European site provides WAAS for other Sr #s...I didn't back up anything and worked ok. Thanks to Cipparrone clan for their report on the site.
  22. The site reported works great on sr # 133...didn't back up anything, lost nothing...gained new screens and secret code 03 indicates that it is accessing the correct sat's. Compared it to our other 500 that has always gotten WAAS, and both are in agreement. One again hats off to Cipparrone clan for their discovery of this file!
