  1. From time to time I go to the PSL area (my parents live in Jensen Beach). Next time I am there for a few days I could contact him and take him out caching. I have done a few in that area but there are many more remaining. I even have an extra GPS unit for him to use. Let me know.

  2. Believe it or not, this past February 14th I received my color meridian and Direct route. Within days i was dismayed with my purchase. The display gets washed out in daylight, the batteries get sucked dry in mere hours and it doesn't have the electronic compass/barometer.

I was able (thanks to alimony tax rebates), I ordered a Garmin 60CS and am now completely converted. This is what a GPS should do. Along with the City Select v5, I am now able to completely enjoy caching. The aout routing automatically adjusts if you miss your turn (direct route requires you to re-caclulate), and notifies you as the turn is coming up. The 60cs is a definite must have- no arguments- until Magellan gets their act back together and ups the ante.

  3. I have a ST Pro and just purchased the MeriColor. DR works great but the firmware for both the STPro & MeriColor, well, sucks. It did not bother me too much with the ST but it reeeaaalllly drains the juice on the Color. I also found the Color hard to see in daylight (even with the backlight on) and it was even hard to tell if the backlight was on or not in full sunlight. The Color is also slow. The extra selections make it difficult and having to switch from street-to-street to point-to-point upon arrival at a cache site usually made me the last to arrive when caching with friends.

To cut this one short, I just ordered a Garmin 60cs. A friend has the 60c and it is well laid out, very quick and I can see it in daylight. The 30 hr battery life is a real plus, too.

Magellan will replace my MeriColor which will then be given to my girlfriend to use to navigate around town as well as for the occasional caching run. I had resisted as long as I could in buying a Garmin but the 60cs seems to offer everything I will need (at least until something better truly comes along). I jsut wish they used an SD card for extra memory but the ST worked well for wherever I went when uploading local maps.

  4. All of my PQ's went MIA over the weekend. All I get now is the description page for signing up for queries. My membership was just re-upped. Anybody else having this problem?

  5. Is there a way for the reports to list finds/notes sorted by time of entry? This would be of great assistance when posting the logs. Also, is there a way to change the order of the columns of the display? If I could be able to "click & drag" the columns in the order needed, that would be another improvement. Just changing which ones display and which ones do not does not allow me to keep all the fields I need.

Is there a way to save my files directly to my SD? Right now, I am having to copy from my main memory to storage.

This one is either operator error or a bug. I have several files on my PPC, some of which are in each file. Whenever I log a note, that cache disappears from the list I am using, I have to close and then re-open in order to see it.

BTW, this is a great product and one I thoroughly enjoy using while caching. Others have asked and are impressed by its capabilities. Thanks for all your hard work in developing this tool.

  6. To load your gpx files onto your PPC, copy them to your activesync folder (usually in your My Documents folder). If your PPC is connected, it will automatically sync. Thne go to your PPC, start GPXSonar, select the file in the folder and voila'! I will never go back to paper caching after using this program.

I also use GSAK to maintain a master listing of all the caches. Before going out, I set a few filters, export a gpx file to my PPC folder and off I go. Now if I could only get just caches around a route, then all would be right.

  7. If I connect my Meridian to my desktop using a 9-pin serial to USB converter cable, will there be an increase in throughput or will it still be as slow as using serial?

I just received a cable I had ordered online thinking I would be able to connect my Meridian to my PPC. Wrong USB connection so back it goes unless I can use it to improve connection speed to my desktop.

    Anybody have a definitive answer?

  8. Just tried the shift-click on all states and came back with no results. I guess I will have to run for all the states I have done and then merge with either Watcher or GSAK. Tedious but doable.

  9. How can I do a PQ that contains all my finds? I have cached in a couple of states and would like to create a database of all finds. However, the PQ requires a country (other than US) or a state. Any help would be appreciated.

  10. Tadpole: as for turning off, there is a way to set the power off/on button in protected mode.

I just received my Meri Color this Sat and went on a quest on Sunday. Superb unit and (almost) everything I need. Small glithc- using a multileg route and direct route when I did a street to street directoins, it sent me to the last waypoint. I sent a note to Magellan and will post inthe forum accordingly.

The satellite reception is supperb and the maps are right on! I wish they would update the Topo streets as well.

I even went to a cache today that I had been unable to find and, voila!, there it was in not so plain sight.

Pleased? Yes and still a Magellan-ist.

  11. Why do I always find relevant info after I have ordered what I need? I need to hook my MeriColor to my iPAQ. SO I just paid the $40+ for what I need (I hope). The only comfort is that Magellan is pretty good about delivering what is needed when you need it. Ah, well, at least I can send it bask if it doesn't (+S/H)...

  12. I am a new owner of a HP4150 and need some assistance with GPXSOnar. I have a 128Mb SD and want to keep my gpx and psp files there. GPXSonar is installed to main memory but doesn't seem to see the files in SD. What am I doing wrong? Should I load the program into SD as well?

My gameplan is to have several dedicated SDs so that whenver I switch from working to playing moded, all I have to do is switch SDs.

Is this possible or am I making it too complicated?
