  1. No problem at all Red90. I see you are a very accomplished cacher and am certain it would be good to meet you. I hope you don't take offense to any of my comments, they are not meant to be taken personally - just my opinion and hopefully just one piece of data for those trying to make purchase decisions. Have fun and the very best to you on the trails!
  2. Red90 my friend, I didn't notice your signature as you have not noticed my Geocaching history - 446 total and 83 FTF's so I may have a little experience at this game. I have used the Colorado 400t for three weeks next to the 60CSx and it is not in my opinion, up to the same standard, as the 60CSx! If new to GPS and not knowing what you are missing, the Colorado would probably do now at version 2.4. That said, I cannot speak to 2.51 just released on 4/7/08. I know the Colorado will be the "GPS to have" when finally rev'd to it full potential but for now, it is 2nd to the 60CSx in my opinion. Please enjoy and have fun, my like yours are only opinions!

  4. Red90, do you have a Colorado? I have a 60CSx and "had" a 400T and have been using GPS's for a long time. IMHO, the 60CSx is a much better, more stable instrument at this point in time. The Colorado has all the potential to supersede the 60CSx, but its not there yet. If you can stand the growing pains, buy the Colorado now and grow with it. If you want one of the best handheld GPSr's now, fully functional, buy the 60CSx. Hope this helps!
  5. I have the 60CSx and have never used the VistaCSx so the only comment I can make is teh 60CSx is a great GPS. The only feature it has that the Vista does not is Tidal Tables. I use them but if you do notneed them the Vista is probably going to serve you well.
  6. FWIW, I have city nav 2008 on my 60csx and my 2610. Side by side they seem to give the same directions with the same accuracy. I love the 2610 for autorouting, it is a great unit. I am very impressed with the 60csx for autorouting. Obviously it doesnt talk to you like the 2610 (which I turn off regardless) and the screen isnt as big, but the 60csx is excellent at autorouting. I agree 100% with superduty1!
  7. The PN-20 has a lot of potential but is not near as mature and functional as the Garmin products as of today! I have the PN-20 and a 60CSx and if you were to demo both and the software, I think you would agree that the Garmin is the way to go today. As a matter of fact, if I wasn't an earlier-adopter, I would sell the one I have but I riding the "beta" game with the hope it is someday up to the task. This said, the DeLorme maps to me and others are much more detailed than Garmins. The PN-20 is also verrry sloooow as compaired to the 60CSx and your particular unit. I stopped using the PN-20 after about 6 months and have used the 60CSx for about a year. With each software update for the PN-20, I hope/look for improvements - and there have been a number BUT, the Garmins are still the GPS of choice for me when caching. Hope this helps.
  8. I do this all the time with Garmin's 60CSx w/ Topo 2008 NT and City Navigator North America NT. In "Follow Road" mode it makes "beeps" to alert you to upcoming turns and arrival at destination. Then just turn off the CN map and reclaculate the "direct Route" and go right to the cache. I also have a Garmin 2610, requires vehicle power, that is great for routing to caches/ parking areas and then I switch to the 60CSx for the direct route to the cache. But I have been using just the 60CSx recently and believe it will meet your expectations.
  9. My 60CSx did that a month ago. I had heard the battery terminals spring-loaded against the PC board could cause this. So, since I was probably going to have to send it back anyway, I took it and twisted it as though I were "wringing water out of it", not ridiculously hard, but with some force and - its been working since. I'm not sure it will fix your problem, but it may relieve sone stress! I live in SE Mass as well if you'd like me to look at it if you cannot get it to work or have a hard time calling Garmin. BTW, mine was about a year old also.
  10. If you need waterproof and can find one, the Garmin 2610 is great. They are our of production but may still be available new or used. Can be used on motocycles as well. One consideration is it need to be plugged into 12V's all the time. I've used one for 4+ years and love it. I use it to route me to cache sites and then use the 60CSx to make the final find. Hope this helps.
  11. I've been using Garmin instruments since the mid 90's. Aside from the 2610, the 60CSx is the best in class and a mature product. I cannot figure out why Garmin would bring such a beta product to market before its time. FYI, I had one for two+ weeks with revision 1.4. The only thing I can say about it is its got great potential but it is not even close to the 60CSx in functionality at this point. I've been an earlier adopter of electronic products since the seventies but I never seen a product released that was this handicapped out of the gate to date. I will own one some day but for now, the 60CSx is the GPS for choice and I would recommend it over the Colorado in a heart beat!
  12. This all makes a lot of sense. Thx a lot for all the input folks.
  13. Question: I have about 600 waypoints (caches) loaded. Then I initiate a "finds" for caches, the PN20 seems to stall and then very slowly begins to populate the list. If it try to initiate a "scroll" to look down the list, the caches stop populating so I never see the whole database of them UNLESS, I wait until the whole list populates and then scroll. Is this normal and is it very slow for everyone? Thx in advance, Lee
  14. Adding Topo and City Navigator NT to the 60CSx makes it the most well-rounded handheld you can buy, IMO. You will not be sorry and should be able to sell it if you outgrow it or just keep it as a backup. I have the well known 2610 considered to be one of the best waterproof GPS's on the market and using City Navigation NT on the 60CSx and City Nav on the 2610, have seen little difference in the routing capability. Althought the 60 cannot speak, the beep warning on the 60 are very easy to follow.

  16. You definitely cannot go wrong with the 60 CS or CSx. I have used a few others including the Colorado for a few weeks and the 60CSx is by far the best overall I have used. OK, before I get verbally spanked let me say that the Colorado has tremendous potential and isn't too bad with release 2.40 BUT, its interface is still immature and will go through a number of updates before it is as solid as the 60CSx. This said, if you want to go with what will undoubtly be the best at some point in the future, but the Colorado 400t and just deal with the quirks and grow with it. Hope this helps!
  17. Aside from the Colorado, any opinions on what PDA device seems to work the best for the Wherigo caches at this point? Thx in advance.
  18. Thx for the feedback guys. I hope you realize that I am not bashing the instrument by any means but as an early adopter myself, I can only handle a couple at a time. I'm still working with the DeLorme PN-20 which also has great potential. I have been using Garmin products for many years and have a number of them so my support for the company is without question. I would have kept the Colorado but I just don't need it - yet! The best of luck and enjoy the ride to the top!!
  19. I've had the Colorado 400t for about two weeks now and believe it has tremendous potential but is not at the maturity level of the 60CSx as of version 2.4. I love the Geocaching data in the GPS but find a lot of the functionality much less intuitive and glitchy. It will no doubt find a cache and allow you to log its find. But I have had a lot of trouble getting new caches in and for some odd reason it would only take 681 of my 976 waypoints and did not give me any indication why after several tries. The interface takes a little getting used to but I believe I have what can be had understood and will just have to wait until it is out of beta. I purchased it from REI and am very glad I did, not only because of the return policy but because of the other benefits a membership offers. When the time comes I will surely be making the purchase from REI again. Until then, the 60CSx is a mature, reliable GPS'r with a very intuitive and easy to learn interface.
  20. You folks are GREAT! A wealth of knowledge, can't thank you enough. So, if I have the two piece power adapter that came with the DeLorme PN-20 meaning, it has the Cable with the USB-A on one end and the "Mini" on the other and it plugs into the 12V power outlet in the car, it should work? I am assuming the power adapeter is a DC to DC down-converter from 12v to 5V. The only question would be current syncing capability. I'll give it a try! Thx again.
  21. REI store didn't have the Auto Navigation Kit which includes the mount and 12V Power Adapter for the car. Does anyone know if any 12V USB Power Adapter such as the one that powers the PN-20 will work? Anyone know what the voltage and current requirements are for the Colorado?
  22. Thx everyone for the feedback. I'll go back to see what I could have been doing wrong. I appreciate your comments Snowake on the transition to the Colorado and had a feel it may need a dedicated effort to make the move. It has made me appreciate the 60 even more!
  23. I just picked it up Friday loaded with 2.20. I updated to 2.40.
  24. 1. I have a 60CSx and have been downloading Pocket Query results via Mapsource. With the 60CSx, I first download the Waypoints and then the Parking Locations. The Colorado will not take the Parking locations. 2. In order to use the "Geocaching" profile and do you need to load and use the Trip and Waypoint Manager? Using Mapsource too download, I have to go back to "Recreation" profile to see Waypoints. 3. For those with 60CSx experience, did you find the transition to the Colorado "interesting" but worth the added features relative to "paperless" caching or you prefer the 60CSx UI?
