  1. I too looked at the postings and change my vote. 1) delete log 2) email explaining and invite re-post
  2. My post was a little tongue in Cheek. I have received only one (1) such email in 1300 finds (probably 100 DNF's) . I have sent about 5 such emails. Not every DNF got an email. I understand your point. I should only send when requested. Thanks.
  3. I would ask them politely to remove it. Just as I would to a person fully describing the location of the cache in their log.
  4. First I must admit....I have sent emails to DNF's without the cacher asking. ********Don't Look Spoiler Ahead ******** I will stop. I did not fully realize the impact of the well intended gesture.
  5. I can think of several more creative, less expensive to make a cache difficult to find. Although I did like the idea of the 10 minute timer. Who is going to put batteries in that thing for the next few years? 1) As to the Evil-ness of it, I would put it in the same category as inaccurate coords. Think about puting the cache in a place where GPS reception is already difficult. Here is an example. I placed a cache in a heavy wooded area and let my GPS average 1500 points. The coords were still 30 yards off. Maybe my unit was off (although I have placed since then with very accurate coords). 2) Invest your time in Great Camo. I feel that the best "evil" caches are the ones that you can look right at, even touch, and not know it. 3) Use "Natural" GPS jammers. Overhead power High Voltage Lines I think to debate the ethics of blocking the signal people need to find your hide is foolish. It would move the cache to my Ignore list with Juniper hides . You may as well post your Cache as a Mystry/Puzzle and make them find it with a compass and map. -My 2 cents...OK maybe 4 cents Muniman
  6. While this thread kept my attention for a page or so, the flaming just wore me out. So I skipped to the end. I apologize if this information is already addressed in this thread. I wish to address the original question. In my case I set up a gmail account. You can set up a filter in gmail to forward emails. Mine looks for the word "Publish" or maybe "Published" anyway, then it forwards it to my phone as a text. This allows me the luxury of deciding when and if I wish to try to get it. The reviewer in our area likes to publish caches really early in the morning and late in the evening. Which give a "family" more options for the FTF. If you would like help setting up gmail and the filter just email me and I would be glad. For you FTF obsessed. I have set up a server that when it gets the notifications it follows the link in the email to GC.com and gets the coords, hint, difficulty/terrain, and Name. and texts the info to my phone. The internet is too slow on my phone and this works quicker. All the needed info for a FTF within 15 seconds of the original Publishing Email notification. While I am not FTF obsessed I will not pass one up if it comes at a convenient time. Have a nice day.
  7. I read the first page of posts. which kept my interest until the flaming started. Then I just came here to post. I am sorry if I missed something in my skip. Maybe I am missing something here. First I choose the caches I wish to find. When I travel I usually load traditional caches, because I am traveling and do not wish to spend time with a multi or puzzle. I want to find log and leave. When I go on a multi run I know that I am getting into. When I go to get Mysterys I do my homework before I leave. ETC. here are some things I do not understand about this conversation: 1) How many ALR Caches are there. I live in what I consider a fairly cache-dense area and I have found only one in over 1000 finds. If I got home and found (after the fact) that there was a ALR. OK so I do not get to log that one. It is one cache, not twenty. And I would guess not too difficult to find. I know the one I found took maybe 10 minutes of my time. 2) I lost track exactly where the conversation changed from where they should be filed (traditional or Mystery) to if they should exist at all. My two cents here: The owner may put any adidtional requirements their heart desires (I believe 8-19 on the list), if the cacher fails to do their homework before they leave (or while they are caching) then the fault lies on them. Very similar to "Buyer Beware". I would expect (and Hope) they they would be filed under Mystery which implies there they are not log and leave caches. I know I repeated what some of you have posted. In conclusion, if I do not get to log a cache because I did not do my homework, that is OK. I will either go back and do it right or find one of the other 650,000 caches out there. Have a nice day.
