  1. OK; Here is what DeLorme sent me: Hi Kent, Thank you for contacting Delorme Technical Support. If your device is freezing up and behaving erratically in a variety of ways it may be best to simply format the device entirely and rebuild the firmware in the unit. To do this please follow the instructions below. Click Start , type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue. On the General tab of the System Configuration window, select Selective Startup. Under Selective Startup, clear the Load Startup Items check box. Click the Services tab, select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All. Click OK, and then click Restart. Note: You may experience a temporary loss of some services functionality when you follow these steps. Restoring the settings restores the functionality. Once you have completed the above steps, please proceed with the Low Level Reformat and Firmware update detailed below. When performing the firmware update, be sure not to wiggle or adjust the cable connecting your PN-20 to your computer as this may lead to a loss of connection and serious damage to your device. Turn the Earthmate PN-Series GPS off. Hold down the PAGE, MENU and Power buttons. Once you see the dark blue Warning screen, release the Power button first, and then release the PAGE and MENU buttons. Press ENTER Scroll to Media and press ENTER. Scroll to Low-level Internal Reformat and press ENTER. Scroll to Format and press ENTER. Scroll to Yes and press ENTER. Press the QUIT button twice. Scroll to Reboot and press ENTER. Install the latest version of the firmware at the following link. http://support.delorme.com/questions.php?questionid=60'>http://support.delorme.com/questions.php?questionid=60 After the reformat has completed, follow the instructions below to take your computer out of diagnostic mode Click Start , type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue. Under the General tab, select Normal Startup. Click OK, and then click Restart. Before it locked up it was showing very irratic behavior. It didn't show all of the geocaches when d/l pocket query. It gave really bad navigation to caches. Everything it did was erratic.
  2. Delorme has sent me the fix for my PN-20 and it has worked so I will not need another GPSr now. Delorme Technical Support is wonderful and their GPSrs are great for paperless caching without using any unusual workaround software. My PN-20 is not as quick as a PN-60 but I can go totally paperless without anything but my PN-20 and Delorme's Cache Register software! I am back in the game again!!
  3. The tech support group at Delorme sent me the fix via e-mail and it has worked very well now I am back in the game with my PN-20. When my 20 dies for good, I will get a PN-60. Thanks for all of the suggestions.
  4. I have sent a request to Delorme technical support and they should get back to me via e-mail soon. That PN-60 for $299 at REI may be worth looking into if my PN-20 can't be fixed. Thanks for all of the suggestions.
  5. My PN20 just froze up and can only be shut down by removing the battery. Any suggestions?? It just went goofy when I was out today; nothing seemed to work properly. What should I replace it with if I must to achieve paperless caching at a price under $300?
  6. How do you use an Ipod Touch with a 60CSX to do paperless caching? I have been using a Delorme PN20 for a long time and could do totally paperless caching with it including adding uploadable notes on caches I grabbed. But,,,my PN20 has just given up the ghost and has died! Is there a completely affordable Garmin that does totally paperless caching?
  7. 1. GPS--DeLorme PN20 2. Paperless Device and Software-Not used. 3. Software for downloading Waypoints-GSAK 4. Maps-Delorme Topo 7. I got Topo 6 with my PN20 but Topo 6 didn't work well on my new Vista machine. I reported that on the DeLorme forum and was given instructions as to how to receive the new Topo 7 for free directly from DeLorme. Their customer service treated me like all excellent companies' do. I am a relative newbee with only 135 finds to date. I have only used the PN20 so I don't have anything to compare to. btw; I need to have an opinion for a GPSr for my young grandson that is not too technical or expensive. I have been thinking that something like one of the Garmin Etrex products might serve him well?
