Hi Kent,
Thank you for contacting Delorme Technical Support.
If your device is freezing up and behaving erratically in a variety of ways it may be best to simply format the device entirely and rebuild the firmware in the unit. To do this please follow the instructions below.
Click Start , type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
On the General tab of the System Configuration window, select Selective Startup.
Under Selective Startup, clear the Load Startup Items check box.
Click the Services tab, select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
Click OK, and then click Restart.
Note: You may experience a temporary loss of some services functionality when you follow these steps. Restoring the settings restores the functionality.
Once you have completed the above steps, please proceed with the Low Level Reformat and Firmware update detailed below. When performing the firmware update, be sure not to wiggle or adjust the cable connecting your PN-20 to your computer as this may lead to a loss of connection and serious damage to your device.
Turn the Earthmate PN-Series GPS off.
Hold down the PAGE, MENU and Power buttons.
Once you see the dark blue Warning screen, release the Power button first, and then release the PAGE and MENU buttons.
Press ENTER
Scroll to Media and press ENTER.
Scroll to Low-level Internal Reformat and press ENTER.
Scroll to Format and press ENTER.
Scroll to Yes and press ENTER.
Press the QUIT button twice.
Scroll to Reboot and press ENTER.
Install the latest version of the firmware at the following link.

Customer Question/Comment: My PN20 has completely locked up and the only way I can shut it off is by removing the rechargable battery. Before it locked up it was showing very irratic behavior. It didn't show all of the geocaches when d/l pocket query. It gave really bad navigation to caches.
Everything it did was erratic.
