  1. You need to post this on the "GPS Garage Sale" Forum.
  2. Mine had the compass needle point the wrong direction, but I soon learned to watch if the distance to cache was going down. This was before I calibrated it. I found 19 caches with it in W. TX, NM, CO, and AZ. I love it so far.
  3. Thanks they do not make it easy do they thinking should have brought the 60csx to get the both maps on. LWM No, they don't make it easy at all. It took me quite some time after I found out how to do it to make it work.
  4. First you have to load the maps you want during the same session. That is, pick the streeet map sections you want, change over to the Topo maps and pick them. Then upload (or is it download) them to your GPS. The mapset with the most detail will by default be the one that shows. To view the Topo, you need to turn off the street map.
  5. I'm not sure about that. I was talking about the $100 rebate they had on the 76CSx.
  6. My daughter and I were in Cottonwood AZ a few months ago looking for a cache. I did a "GoTO' and it led us all over town. Every few seconds it would recalculate. I finally gave up on it and uploaded the coords from the GPS to Mapsource. I then used CSNA6 to navigate to it. After I figured out we were on the opposite side of town, we finally got to the street it was near. Later I figured out I didn't have maps for that area on my GPS, so it was tryig to use the basemap.
  7. The deadline was 07/0906 and I mailed mine Certified Mail on the 9th. They received it on the 11th and I got an e-mail on the 21th stating they had received it and gave me a tracking #. A month later I get the check, which was sort of unusual. It was a postcard! Never saw anything like this before (I don't get out too much). No problem at the bank though. I thought they might want to "hold" it until it cleared, but they asked if I wanted to cash it or deposit it. I had actually forgotten about it. BTW I went back 5 pages to find the original "Rebate" thread, but I couldn't find it.
  8. This is one of the features I have yet to take advantage of. I wish I was able to travel more.
  9. I've ordered several items over the years from them and haven't had any problems except they charge too much for shipping. I ship stuff all the time from the PO so I know shipping costs.
  10. Thanks. A couple of years ago, I bought City Select North America v5 and got a free upgrade to CSNA v6. I guess it can't hurt to give them a call. I plan to call and ask about my rebate check for the 76CSx I bought in May anyway. thanks
  11. [quote name=BoudreauxLA' date='Aug 9 2006, 11:36 AM' post='2395304' Call Garmin direct. I ran into a slight problem and Garmin straightened it out immediately. I ask Garmin why they were not listed on the drop down list, and the rep said Garmin wanted to handle any problems themselves. Do you have the number handy? Never mind, let me re-phrase the question. I found these numbers on their site. Which one did you use? Technical Support (for all Garmin products except Apollo aircraft) - Monday — Friday - 8 a.m. — 5 p.m. Central time (closed holidays) - 1-800-800-1020 - 1-888-442-7646 or - (913) 397-8200 Garmin International Inc. 1200 East 151st Street Olathe, KS 66062-3426 (Kansas City metro area) Phone: (913) 397-8200 Fax: (913) 397-8282 Thanks.
  12. I ordered and received CN NA v8 last month and have already received and installed it. Today I get an e-mail fro Garmin offering it for $75. I paid, I think $130 for it. That really chaps my a**. Sometimes it just doesn't pay to be on the cutting edge.
  13. I bought a 76CSx that had the $100 rebate. I mailed it 07/06/06 (deadline 07/09/06) and they received it 07/11/06. I got an e-mail 07/21/06 that said they had received it and gave a tracking #. The website said It was valid and scheduled for final processing. I'm still waiting. How long does it take?
  14. What kind of batteries did you have to create that kind of current through coins? And how did the short maintain continuity long enough to get that hot? Were you sleeping or something? (I'm not doubting your account, just wondering what set of circumstances caused it.) I have packed AA alkalines in my pockets for years. I would never do a 9V that way, but little 1.5VAA batteries have never given me even a warm spot! I had a lot of coins in my pocket and I was sitting down at work. They were either AAA or AA NIMH rechargeables.
  15. [quote name=Alphawolf' date='Aug 4 2006, 06:06 PM' post='2386557.But, to answer your question, the chances of some metallic object making contact with both posts of an AA battery simultaneously are pretty remote. About the only possibility I can imagine is if they somehow got crinkled into some aluminum foil. Highly unlikely. If you must take them, drop them into a sandwich baggie and don't worry about them! Not true. I had some batteries in my pocket along with a good chunk of change and I dadgum near burned a hole in my thigh from the heat when they shorted out.
  16. I had 51 a couple of days ago and I have 48 right now on my 78GPSMAPCSx.
  17. I have a 1GB card with CN 8 and Topo. I loaded all of Texas for both map sets. It was only 309.5MB; not quite a third. It took 25 minutes going directly from MapSource to the GPS (76CSx). I loaded 100MB via a card reader in 4 minutes, so I'm estimating it would have taken half the time.
  18. I don't have a "Custom POI" icon when I press the "Find" button. I have only 23 icons. Do I need to load some custom POIs before it appears?
  19. As I type, I have 03,07, 13,16,19, 20, 23, 27, and 51. 01 shows, but no lock. This is inside the house with a Garmin 76CSx. 51 has the strongest signal.
  20. DOH! Sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees. I never thought of doing it directly from MapSource. I forgot when there's a dropbox, it's there for a reason. I experimented with the 128MB card that came with the unit and downloaded the entire state of TX (MapSource said 108 MB and MS Explorer said 109.3 MB) in 4 minutes. (edit) It was from CN v8. Thanks very much.
  21. So... if you find an open Hot Spot, make sure you ask for permission before you use it to jump on the net, because you could get busted, and you could make geocachers look bad by going to geocaching sites while connected on an unauthorized connection. - T of TandS Does this include businesses that have it for customers? I used a café in Alpine, TX when I was on vacation last May.
  22. I got off track. I really would like to know how to copy maps from MapSource to my Micro SD card reader. Is it really faster than coping direct from MapSource to the GPS? It took 25 minutes to copy 3.3MB that way.
