  1. Now I'm curious. Why would that be something a legal team asks for? I'm not part of the legal team, merely a lackey at their whim. However, I'd assume it's just a good practice to dissolve responsibility for bad browsing habits by the users who don't pay attention to the links they are clicking on. Phishing schemes, keyloggers, etc.. are a reality of the world today and would make any legal person nervous.
  2. Well that is DEFINITELY not intended behavior. What browser/device/version are you seeing this on?
  3. This is a standard on many websites to just simply warn users that they are being directed away from our domain by clicking a link (and something our Legal team has asked us to begin implementing around the site). You've seen it already in Message Center, and now in Profile. It is definitely coming to other places across our domains. It is a minor annoyance, buy alas, it is one we must deal with to provide some browsing security within the Geocaching domains.
  4. Consider that we also do not want to expose that information to anyone maliciously trying to get info from the conversation. Your sent box will let you know what it was in reference to.
  5. So much great info! Thanks so much - we'll take a look and see if we find any weirdness happening. I agree that since it's not showing in either person's Message Centers, there is always the chance they disconnected or there was a service glitch that interrupted them sending the message. Either way, we'll start looking at it!
  6. I'll echo Moun10Bike's comments and say we will put in a bug to check and see if there is anything weird going on. I would suspect that if there is, it may be in the display of the messages (in other words, they're probably in the database but not displaying properly). In any event, we will definitely look at it. In addition to the platform questions he asked above, can you also provide what browser and version you are using to access MC (if this is on web)?
  7. As a long time Pegasus mail user I can tell you that my mail program has ALWAYS had that behavior and I'm using it for over 15 years. It's a setting called "Sort unread before read". I stand corrected! Filtering is also available on a lot of mail programs (such as an "Unread" mailbox). However, the solution we are looking at is to allow the ability to load more conversations to get to the one that is unread. We'll let UX take a look at the idea of adding a way to only show unreads.
  8. The message center is currently displays your conversations by the most recently updated at the top. We do not make unread conversations "sticky" (this behavior would be strange - neither email nor other messaging services use that behavior). If the message falls off your list of 20 conversations, then yes you will show one unread that does not show in your list. You should be able to get to it, however, by hiding conversations until you get it to load (we know this isn't the most elegant solution, and we have a feature in our backlog to allow you to load more conversations than the 20). We also have a feature request to display timestamps for those that want to see all the past ones. We do not have plans currently to offer the ability to completely delete messages or to block the message center.
  9. I noticed this today. It is nice knowing that an email comes in as well but i'd still like to be able to simply hit "reply" in an email instead of having to go to my messages though.Unfortunately, you don't get an email notification for every message received via the MC. You get email notifications for only some of them. Working on adding the option to get EVERY message in an email, too! No ETA, but working on it now!
  10. So if none of your caches require email contactwhat's the problem? My problem is, i never think to look for messages. I realize that i can get used to it but i don't feel there is a need to. There are already good ways to get my attention if need be. I'd rather have a way to turn the feature off. At the same time, it would need to let people know on the other end, that i'm not accepting this form of communication. There is another site i utilize that has this feature. I've had messages sent that i didn't notice for months. When i did finally get back with the person, they thought i i didn't care or that i was just ignoring them. There was one time where it caused hurt feelings on the other end. I don't do social sites and i'm definitely not into the texting fad. If you have my number, call me. If not, email me,,, It's just that easy! We're not looking into an opt-out, but the free Geocaching app also has Message Center in it; and will alert you when you have new messages. Also, when you log into the site there's an icon at the top of the page that will alert you (besides the email notifications).
  11. Are you trying to infer that replying to the email will reply to the thread in the message center? That feature is being worked on AS WE SPEAK (replying to email will update the Message Center, that is...) - I don't have an ETA for release, but I can say we're working on it.
  12. Exactly - I can reply to an email message form a mountain top a whole lot easier than having to log into a web site and drill away to the correct page, thread, response etc.. and try typing into a web form. Waste of time and energy. You could always just install the free app and use the Message Center there. No website needed.
  13. Thanks for the feedback - sorry to hear this is hitting you right now. I have brought up the spam throttling on email to our dev team and we will look at it. It is true that you are getting throttled, and I can't share our exact throttling thresholds (otherwise those that abuse the system will know EXACTLY how to skirt it); I will say that it is based off a number of emails in a specific rolling time frame. So if you simply wait a while, it will relieve up a bit and you'll be able to send emails again. If you approach that same number of emails within that rolling timeframe you will most likely get hit again. The same would happen if you were trying to start new conversations on the Message Center - it actually uses the same limitations for starting a brand new conversation with a player you've never spoken with before (single messages are also throttled, but not nearly at the rate of starting a new conversation). Good news on your second question though, we are currently working on raising both the character limit on messages as well as fixing the text box entry field to expand while writing, so it shows more than 2 lines. Sorry this has affected you - it sucks and I promise we'll take a look at the throttling limitations to be sure we are doing all we can to catch the evil-doers and not the legit cachers.
  14. I received a message today as a response to mine. I can't figure out how to turn off the indication of having one unread message? I think the indication should vanish when I click on the thread that has the new message. I didn't try responding to the message, since that shouldn't be the only way to reset the indication. That sounds like a bug - can you let me know which browser you are using and what version number? Did it clear eventually (within 10-20 seconds)? No, it's still on. I'm using Chrome Version 43.0.2357.134 dev-m on Win7. On that note I tried my phone's (Android) stock browser and there the indication was off ??? PS Sean, I sent you a PM Now the indication is gone Got your message - we'll look into it.

  16. I was just told this was hotfixed today! It was a bug that has been SQUASHED!
  17. I wonder if the developers of the 'Message Center' can answer these questions? Searching is something that a number of folks have requested. We are exploring options into that. Are you searching for text from someone in all your messages or within a specific conversation? Save them - where are you looking to save them? Since there is no permanent delete option for messages, they are always available to you. Forward them - right now copy/paste is the best option but good idea! We'll throw that into the hat of new feature ideas! CC and BCC them - this would infer that there was group messaging (which we are also looking at for the future of the Message Center).
  18. You can send as many messages as you'd like (each up to 1000 characters - we are looking at expanding that amount soon). You won't get notifications of new messages if you have un-ticked the email notifications. The feature has increased communication across the website, so I'd hardly call it worthless.
  19. The sentiment quoted above is based on a false assumption - that because someone uses the Message Centre they must like it. As I stated, that "sentiment" is not based off usage alone - it's also based off the survey results, where the majority of players did express that they would recommend it to a friend and that they thought it would make communication with other players easier. I understand that it may not match the views of some of the players HERE on the forums. And while we take all feedback we get into account, it is a point of fact that the survey provided a sampling size that was MUCH larger than that of the forum participants (one of the main reasons we use other ways to gather this feedback). This is a data-driven statement, not a sentiment based on conjecture. I will also take this opportunity to state that we are not exploring an "opt-out" to the Message Center. We are also not entertaining the idea of removing the contact-via-email system at this time either.
  20. This is something we have talked about adding if and when we are ever able to make the Message Center a fully instant system (in other words, removing the "asynchronous" aspect of it). Thank you for the suggestion!
  21. That is on the list for investigation, but in the ultimate order of priority based on our user insights and the surveys, it fell pretty far down the list. That said, we ARE aware of it as a request and will be investigating what we can do in the future!
  22. I bet this has to do with the app users. Apparently it's a bug which will be fixed. That would be really appreciated. It IS a bug that is being fixed! Should be out soon!
  23. If it helps, the incorrect behaviour seems to be consistent in only happening on the profile pages of unverified members. The link is correctly formed on all other profile pages I checked. I'm sure it was completely unintentional, but the optics look pretty bad when the Message Center was supposed to be a means to contact unverified members, but that the link on those respective profiles then doesn't work. Hopefully it's easy to fix. Totally agreed! We'll get it out as soon as we swat this pesky bug!
  24. We are aware of the issue regarding the Send Message link not working for some users and we are working on it. No conspiracy, I promise.
